I am not a gunsmith and probably know just enough to be dangerous but was curious if this project might make sense. I was thinking about ordering one of the cheaper m700 remingtons in 300 RUM and then removing the stock and the barrel. I then wanted to order a beavertail composite stock and have a gunsmith install a heavy barrel in 300 RUM. Would that be expensive? My goal is to make a long range gun, not for competition but for my own entertainment. would any other modifications be required and if I could get the m700 at a reasonable price, what would the total project likely end up costing me. Also, is there anyone you would recomend to do the work?
