Not really sure.
I know this is probably a no go but just for curiosity sake, would this ever be a possibility?.

RPD's on a semi auto only reciever would be a dream come true in my opinion.
As far as I'm aware they are not prohibited.

While true that it is technically not related to the Kalashnikov-family, I have no doubt that the RCMP would still prohibit it.

Would be a christmas miracle.

pretty sure you would still be limited to 5 round links but it would be bad ass and should be legal.

Legally, they're not prohibited or related to a prohibited firearm. Common sense would say yes.

Would the RCMP let us have them? Not in a bazillion years.

They are apparently letting in the Type 81, the VZ 58's have came in as well, so I think it does have a reasonable chance.

They also let semi MG-34's ect. in as well...

Even with 5 round belt limit, I'd still buy one.

Type 81's are not classed yet tho. they still could be prohib, i hope not but it does look like an AK and the way things are going who will really know.
I have faith in TI and hope for the best for us as i will be buying one of each version of the 81's

The RCMP already has the RPD's classified as Prohib, since they are what they are "a belt fed machine gun designed to fill the need for a role for a SAW style weapon"... IF we're thinking we're going to get a semi-auto version of this... I do agree with the previous post of a snowballs chance in hell :D

Just my $0.02 ;)

Is this fact? I was under the impression that links were exempt from the 5-round limit.

RPD uses a non-disintegrating belt. RCMP does not accept that the design is pre-1945, so the belt would be limited to 5 round sections.

An ATF approved semi auto RPD is being sold in the US. If the receiver is new, it should qualify as semi auto here. Doubt that the US DOS would allow export.
