Would the change be worth while ?
I am Selling my 7MM rem mag to make the move up to .300 win mag
Is this redundant ? I already have a 7MM-08 ( new ) and thought why not get a .300 Win Mag...I have never owned this Calibre and it does offer a larger bullet selection ( I reload )

Should I just stay with the 7MM or do you think I will gain something by making the jump to .300 win Mag ?

:runaway:

Not a major difference if you ask me.

As are a reloader, as it is now, you can buy .284 bullets that work in both your rifles. There are plenty of good .284 bullets to chose from; I don't see going to .308 opening up any new doors for you.

Unless you have a real specific need, I'd stick with what you have.

I don't think you would gain that much. I own a 300 win mag and a 7-08. I find it makes a nice combo. The advantage to the 300 win mag is slightly more power especially with the heavier bullets available. Not many critters will tell the difference. Plus the opportunity to own a gun in a different calibre. The one advantage of the 7 rem mag is that you can load the 7mm bullets into both the 7RM and the 7-08, but in reality the 7-08 can't handle the heavy bullets, and you probably won't load 120's or 140's into the 7RM.
whatever you decide just make sure that the gun is a great fit and you enjoy shooting it, that's what matters most

At 400 yards velocity is pretty much the same..although the 300 has about 10% more energy due to bullet weight. Trajectories are very close.

If you regularily shoot 400 yards and believe that 2200 ft/lbs of energy will do the job when 2000 won't, then the 300 Win Mag is for you.

At 500 yards the differences are even less.

Recoil in same weight rifles is quite a bit less in the 7mm Rem Mag.

I'd keep the 7 Mag and load it with 160's...shoot 140's in the 7-08.

I think there is a big enough difference between a 7-08 and 300 win mag to make a difference. Use the 7-08 with 140 grainers for deer and the 300 with 180's for everything bigger. I think the issue is not how much difference between the 7mm mag and 300, it's more the difference between your light and heavier rifle.

To me magnum rifles start with the 300 win mag, but just my opinion never been a 7mm rem mag fan.
