Would this be considered hunting?

We don't see it happening in this video, but my favorite things about Ospreys is when, right after lifting the fish off the water they pause their flight for a second to shake the water off their feathers like a dog comming out of the water. I've never seen one not do it.

That last fish had the bird seriously over gross weight...the climb out was, shall we say strained!

Good video.

Incredibly cool. How did they place the camera to get that undewater footage? A lot of work must go into making a good bit of film like that.

Not an Osprey but one time I watched a Bald Eagle flying over the Quesnel River at Likely during the Salmon run. He finally dove and grabbed a Salmon only to be pulled under water. My eyes were like saucers!

About 30 feet down river the Bald Eagle popped his head up out of the water and just floated down the river. The look on that eagle's face was priceless.

i remember watching something on tv a while back about birds and they were talking about birds drowning after grabbing a fish that was too big for them. something to do with not being able to release their talons while there is pressure on them.

awesome vid. that underwater shot must have took a while to get just right.

As a direct answer to your question..... No it is fishing. Just kidding, that is incredible footage. The eagles across the lake harass the osprey. The osprey seem to do well when only one eagle starts chasing them but when there are two eagles the osprey drops its fish. The eagles will often catch it in midair, they flip on their backs just before they catch it. The first time I saw it I thought it was a fluke but after a couple of repeat performances was convinced that it was part of the game. I wonder how far under water the osprey will go?

I agree, birds are fun to watch.
I was sitting on a lawn chair down the road from me in my
buddies back yard drinking a couple of brews with him.
We heard a bunch of noises above and watched three crows
take after an eagle.
Seems that eagle did something nasty to pizz those three crows off.
One got above the eagle and dive bombed it.
We watched this and it ended when the foursome got out of our view.
Just incredible to watch.
No camera on that one...... :(

Another time me and my old buddy were up at my favorite lake X.
I was in the catch and release mode and one fish I caught clearly
looked like it wasn't going to make it.
I was moving over to net it up and my buddy goes..."wait, wait, wait.....".
My expression gave me away.
"Shhh and don't move" he says.
He was watching an eagle that was watching us across the lake.
I didn't realize the eagle flew to our side and was perched nearby watching
us and this almost belly up fish.
Then.........swoooooooosh.......dang thing came down and grabbed it.
I could of touched it with my fishing rod.
What was really amazing was how far under the eagle went to grab this fish.
Another Kodak moment gone for a chit.

But fun to watch, none the less...... :)
