If you cannot see from the picture.. its a dresser drawer, with a locked plexy-glass "door" over top.

Looks cool. but would it be legal?

For non-restricted, yes.

For restricted, no. The gun would need a locking device on it as well if it were restricted, and probably some way to lock the drawer inside the dresser.

This is one of those weird ones where it probably does qualify as safe storage, but would not qualify as safe display.

I would say that if the glass is strong and the gun has a trigger lock, then it is perfectly legal to store a restricted firearm in that way.

lets say the drawer was locked. plexy glass door is locked.

thats two locking devices. would that not be enough for pistols?

No. For restricteds, they either have to be locked in a container/safe specifically designed to store guns....or....they have to be rendered inoperable and stored in a locked container that can not be easily broken into.

So double locking them without disabling the guns themselves doesn't cut it.

The gun itself must be rendered inoperable with a locking device when stored in a container or receptical. The container or receptical must have a lock on it.

I would say the drawer would only have to be locked if the plexiglass was really weak is easily breakable. If it was not easily breakable, then I would say there would be no need to lock the door. But its all subjective.

s'funny but I can't find any mention of trees in the storage regs.....

That's because it never clarifies what constitutes a "gun room". Lots of people have their own ideas that they try to push as the law but the truth is the law doesn't specify at all beyond "room that has been specifically constructed or modified for the secure storage of restricted firearms and that is kept securely locked".

Some people might argue that locking the door to their bedroom qualifies while others think you need reinforced walls, a reinforced door, barred windows, and a security system. It's all subject to interpretation.

Is that a screen grab from Resident Evil? :p

I'd rather 'own' an Alice. Don't have to worry about legalese + she kick's more ass than any member on this forum! :p
