Would You Actually Trade Your M14 For An FAL?

"...the M14 merely because its one of the few non-restricted..." It's prohibited. The M1A/M305 is not, but neither are they M14's.
In any case, way back in the 1950's, the U.S. military found the FAL to be superior in all respects but accuracy to the M14. You'll note that the M14 lasted the least amount of time as the U.S. battle rifle too. Political decisions regarding the M16 aside.
The evil, semi'd, issue synthetic stocked M14 I have is fun to shoot, but if I had a choice of which one to fight with, it'd be an FAL. FAL's are still issue MBR's. M14's are not.
Anyway, you shouldn't have to give up one to have the other. Remember the adage about the most toys.

Lots of FAL guys in here. Not really sure where to start, but to answer the OP's question: no for the following reasons. 1) With a Blackfeather stock, you can swap a M14 18.5" barrel/receiver group (with CQB optics) for a 22" barrel/receiver group (with DMR optics) and maintain optics zero due to our proprietary oprod guide. The versatility we gain in Canada with cheap Norinco M305s is akin to swapping out a rifle upper on an AR15 lower: in our case, the lower is the Blackfeather stock. This type of versatility is not present on a FAL. 2) You can use any AR15 butt stock. 3) Ergonomics is an entirely different topic, but I think a Blackfeather equipped M14 offers superior ergonomics to the FAL. 5) Weight. A Blackfeather equipped M14 can be an 8.6lb rifle if you want it to be, but more importantly, the weight is balanced and with a CASM or CASM EX scope mount, the rifle's tipping point is adjusted rearward, slightly, putting more weight into your rear shoulder and leaving your front end light and quick to target. 6) Blackfeather offers the M14 rifleman ambidextrous contours at the trigger group 7) AR15 grip options 8) the M14 offers Scout rails like our SHG and full length rails, like the Troy Battlerail, both are Blackfeather compatible 9) Generally, more stocks available for the M14, more grips, more butt stocks equal more versatility...I guess that's it for now.

Agreed.

Though I rarely mention it, his aggressive tactics led me to decide to never purchase anything from him long ago.

Hey now.

I've met Frank; genuine person, motivated, interested, family to feed.

I don't blame him one bit for pitching here; the product (Blackfeather stock) really is good. Light, handled well at one of Larry's tables.... Independent, intestinal fortitude, gumption.... cut him slack I sez. I thought it might have been humourous, even.

It's tough to make it on your own, and maybe in an FN/M14 preference thread it's a little gauche... so what, suck it up, buttercup.

Tho I do like the M14shamwow.ca joke.... lol

Keep in rockin in the free world, Frank!

Overwhelmingly yes. I love shooting my buddy's Aussie L1A1. Last may, in Ohio, I put 400 rounds of steel cased through it. It was sheer bliss ringing the gong. 20140503_141145-1.jpg
