Would You Actually Trade Your M14 For An FAL?

I have two OPP'S , FN FAL'S, and L1A1's still like my m14 s. Used to be a lot of FN stuff around to collect. But, we
can't shoot either anymore. FAL s were a fun gun

"...the M14 merely because its one of the few non-restricted..." It's prohibited. The M1A/M305 is not, but neither are they M14's.
In any case, way back in the 1950's, the U.S. military found the FAL to be superior in all respects but accuracy to the M14. You'll note that the M14 lasted the least amount of time as the U.S. battle rifle too. Political decisions regarding the M16 aside.
The evil, semi'd, issue synthetic stocked M14 I have is fun to shoot, but if I had a choice of which one to fight with, it'd be an FAL. FAL's are still issue MBR's. M14's are not.
Anyway, you shouldn't have to give up one to have the other. Remember the adage about the most toys.

What's that? He who dies with the most toys, still dies? Lol

I'd buy a Springfield just to trade it for an L1A1/C1A1, I've humped a real M14 and a real C1A1 in the bush, no question about it. I'd even get myself a set of (much larger) CF green combats to go with it.

I still own both and like a lot of the .....older guy here carried an C1/C2 for a few years. I always prefer my FAL. The draw back I found with the C1 was the lack of any sort of forward assist with the exception of the Israeli FAL. In dust conditions this would have helped a lot. I fired the C1 on the rifle team one year and by the end of that year could hit a figure 12 on a 4 foot screen at 500m fairly consistently but our C1s were pretty beat up by that time. The Belgian FAL I bought was new (for 450.00) and it grouped much better. But like everyone else who owns one it now sits in a gun locker and collects dust.

I am still waiting for my FN FAL to arrive its in Ottawa waiting for some lab rat to look confirm it is an FN FAL.
Bought it from Epps in January, it went to Ottawa in February. Was sitting in the mail room for months, got entered into their system in June, each time I called I was told it would be another 6 months before they got around to checking it out if they have time. Now with the shooting in Ottawa it will most likely be 6 month into 2015.
I like the FN FAL over the C1 and the L1 A1. I owned an Ex OPP C1 like new in the wrap but was the last series the 8L. I sold it for 4 times what I could pick up an L1 or FAL but don't really regret it can't have them all, but I have tried.
Someone mentioned the M14 back in the 80's for $350, you could also buy an H&K 91 or 93 for $389.95.
I have owned both of the H&Ks and the HK 93 wouldn't shoot SS109 it would tumble them at 50 yards.
I don't remember how my 91 shot, none of the 7.62 heavies shot as good as my Winchester M14.
For simplicity I would rather take the M14, the new stocks on the market would be a real improvement.
With my arthritic shoulder I am turning into a 223 shooter with reduced recoil.

Well, I have both...so the OPs question is moot.

Remove the damn Prohib status of my FN so I can dust it off and shoot it!

Meanwhile, I'll keep banging 7.62 from my M14s.

^^^This.
I have an Indian Ishapore 1A1 that I enjoyed using back when.
But I still prefer the Garand over both the M14 and the FAL

I would not even if it were a Norenco. I have one of the newer Norencos and I am here to tell U they are better than the GI Springfield Armory M305. (except for the battle sights and they are easily replaced) The FN is much heaver than the M14.

At one time I owned both the Australian FN L1A1 and a TRW M14. I preferred the FN, probably as one was issued to me for 13 years and I'm a bit biased. I feel the FN was more ergonomic for the standard infantryman.
