Would You Actually Trade Your M14 For An FAL?

Give me both! But if your making me choose, it's my M14 all the way! It's the only rifle in my safe that I can actually thank for the fact that I'm typing this in English. ;)

This means absolutely NOTHING.
With all the backroom political shenanigans that goes on prior to selecting anything, who chose what says nothing about the item. Its more about who has the congressman's attention.

Very well so , that kind of stuff happens all the time , that point really does mean nothing .. Do the 5 other points i made about the FAL mean nothing too ? lol

I have a FAL and I hate it. Except for the SVT-40, the FAL is the most over rated rifle ever.

Haha funny you say that , they actually copied the SVT40 in many ways when designing the FAL , they have very similar bolts and gas systems . From Wikipedia

''The FAL operates by means of a gas-operated action very similar to that of the Russian SVT-40. The gas system is driven by a short-stroke, spring-loaded piston housed above the barrel, and the locking mechanism is what is known as a tilting breechblock. To lock, it drops down into a solid shoulder of metal in the heavy receiver much like the bolts of the Russian SKS carbine and French MAS-49 series of semi-automatic rifles''

A rotating bolt rifle like a AK, M14 , AR15 is much better than any tilting breechblock bolt rifle like the SKS ,SVT and FAL in my opinion . All new rifle designs seem to be rotating bolt for a good reason.

Nope, not me, I could think of several rifles I would love to own... But would I trade the M14 rifles I've built for an FAL.... Not a chance

FN FAL. Carried the C1A1 during my time in the CF (2 RCHA) till we transitioned to the C7. Did an exchange with the Australian Army in '85, and was issued an L1A1. Great rifles, and so many variations out there. Far more than the M14 (great rifle too). I personally love the FAL design, and would go with it.

X2, bet lots of the people here that said they would trade for a FAL have never shot one lol , never shot a FAL thats even close to as accurate as my most accurate Norc lol .. Most FALs i have shot group about as good as a average AK or SKS, maybe cause they have VERY horrendous triggers !! , they sure are not much lighter than a M14 and the sights are not quite as good . They have slightly better ergos thats it .. Remember the US army was going to adopt the FAL at one point put it in trials against the M14 then decided to keep the M14.. The m14 seems to beat the FAL in the competitive long range shooting world . The M14 is WAY more tuneable and upgradeable too. good luck finding quality match grade FAL barrels .

Your other points do have some merit. :)
Thats why I didnt address them.

Id get both! My grandpa carried an Fal through out his entire military career wish i could ask his opinion but due to family problems i cant. He also worked in the factory making c7 rifles after in the 80's

Screw the family politics spend time with your Grandpa while you can! He would probably love to see you!

It will never be our reality here, one of the reason i applied for my RPAL was because, i had a great experience while visiting a LEO friend in Germany, i was initiated to the FN FAL and the G36, i shot a couple of mags of each and to this day, i have dream to own one of those...
But this is futile...
But yes both of my NM's would go for one of these or both... JP.

loved my FNC1A1, but since I sold it (it was an ex OPP rifle) when I saw the prohibited clouds forming on the horizon, the closest I can get to something remotely like my old friend is the M14.....now all I have to do is resist doing the blackfeather route, it is so appealing, but then so is all that nice italian walnut :)

Sorry dudes... I'm so over the FN C1A1. I never learned to shoot well until I left the Battalion. All I remember was the hamburger face effect I always receive after shooting these babies!

I carried one overseas, and I never felt outgunned. For a range shooter, it's the M14 for me, then again, it's a moot point because the government does not trust us responsible gun owners. :(

One more memory...

And here I am as a 16 year old with a C2:

Thanks for the walk down amnesia lane...

Cheers ,

Barney
