Would you be concerned using these Accubonds?

Just opened a new box of Accubonds and half of them are discolored, almost burnt looking. What do you guys think, any performance issues using them still? I have never run into this situation before. At $2 a bullet you kinda expect better quality.

where the heck are you finding Nosler Accubonds for 6.5 creedmoor at $2 a round? maybe i need another coffee to think straight, but, I am used to paying $50 for 20 rounds of Norma whitetail stuff, $40 if it goes on sale...Nosler is closer to $70 for 20 in my experience...

*EDIT* ok, another coffee in, i realize these are for the bullets only, not a completed cartridge. all is good in the world again.

He's buying 6.5mm Accubond bullets for reloading, not loaded cartridges.

Not loaded ammo, just projectiles. Also for my 260 rem, the better 6.5;)

I had some nosler brass come with squashed and dented necks a while ago. When I emailed them all they did was send me a couple hats, they wont ship reloading components across the border. The did say they would ship me new ones if they could....

Interesting response from Nosler

What you’re seeing is a discoloration of the copper jacket; it reacted to the cardboard that the box was made from. The boxes were made from a recycled cardboard, what we were unaware of is that a chemical used during the recycling process leaves a residual, which is released as a gas, within the final cardboard used in the production of the boxes. The plastic bags that the bullets are placed in are not sealed which allowed the gas to reach the bullets and to react with the copper jackets. We have discontinued the use of this cardboard. The discoloration does polish off with brass polish in a case polisher and has no effect on the bullets performance before or after polishing as it is only a discoloration reaction of the copper. If
Thank You

Clearly this is too widespread of an issue for Nosler to do the right thing and send you a new box. A $10 coupon might have been better than "just do the work and fix it yourself".

Ya, I see they have factory seconds some times listed on their website. I'm guessing that it is all the bullets with these issues.

Short answer is no, the discoloration will not have any effect on the bullet performance.

They may not be pretty, but that's all the effect you're going to get from that condition.

As mentioned cosmetic, created by gasses released from the cardboard.

I opened some older "Barnes" monolithics in carboard boxes and they had similar discoloration issues. It's not smooth but doesn't have any effect on accuracy or performance.

We're so used to plastic boxes being used for premium bullets, we seldom see this on them.

I get similar issues on the odd boxes of Hornady and Sierra.

It is curious, I've loaded plenty of Accubonds that all came in cardboard boxes and never seen this before. I would have never guessed the cardboard was the issue.

I picked out an obvious off type from a box of ablr. Should not have been missed by man or machine which led me to believe there is no quality control at that stage. That and the fact that you can’t find factory seconds anymore, loved shooting those.
