Secondly if they are going to make a product why change from 8620 and then claim its "in spec".

We are working with a tool steel manufacturer based in Europe for guidance in this area, they are of the opinion there are better alternatives, but whatever the market dictates.

There probably is such as S7 or D2. Both will make a receiver that should last a couple of centuries.

But my comment was more directed at the selection of 4150 which does not have features similar enough to what you'd like such as with the 8620 which should be a "reference" point in the material selection process.

Sounds Like A Do-able Project .
I Agree With45 Acp King's Price Point Estimate. It Would Be Desireable To Be Able To Build Up A Rifle With Canadian Quality Parts. Potential Exists For Off Shore " Specialty " Sales.
