Would you buy a rifle that is on the looming C21 amendment list?

Hi everyone,

I am thinking of buying a Kodiak WK180C gen 2 rifle that is on the looming C21 amendment list with the hope that the amendment doesn't pass as was drafted.

Is it foolish to spend the money on this rifle that may not even have a chance to be used before the change is put into effect and is rendered useless? What are the chances that a revised version of the amendment list doesn't contain the WK180C?

It is a very sad day when you have to live in fear of what your government may do. This is NOT living free!!
It seems there are 2 kinds of gun owners. Those that will always abide by whatever rule an evil regime imposes and there are those that live with the "what gun?" plan.
Trust me there is FAR more going on with this regime than just guns. Guns is just stage 1 of their agenda.

The sheer fact that you are asking this... indicates that the shooting sports may not be for you. Try soccer.

(Not putting you down OP, in fact trying to save you from pain and heartache and loss of monies that you may not be prepared for.)

Best.

I will say it is more foolish to play the what if game with what the government will and will not do.

I will continue to buy firearms which interest me, irrespective of what the government does or does not do. I have had naysayers tell me in the past 2 years since the OIC not to buy this or that gun...and they may be right long term, but honestly, I would have robbed myself of 1-2 years of enjoying some really fun firearms that I have purchased and use regularly. No regrets. Sure, some will say if I was caught in a situation like some folks who had their guns-in-transit immediately quashed by the OIC two years ago - I may have second thoughts buying something that is on the government's hit list. But truth of the matter is, I almost died earlier this year from health related stuff, and at this point, I am not going to spend my time (however long or short I have) worrying about something like trying to time the Liberals' next steps.

Heck, even though I have had my PAL for almost 20 years, I decided to FINALLY upgrade to a Restricted this past summer. Of course, by the time I got my upgraded restricted endorsement card, the freeze was on. Still, I am not deterred and am going literally tomorrow to my LGS to purchase my first restricted (SBR). Naysayers told me I wasted my time in paying for my course and getting my Restricted given the current social and political climate. Certainly I had other opportunities to do it sooner and the fact that I didn't is totally on me. But I have no regrets getting it this summer.

Reminds me of two of my kids years ago in Montreal...both were lined up on the zip line across the harbour. My fearless daughter who was much younger, got on there and went "weeeeeee" as she went barreling across. She still talks about how awesome of an experience it was. My son, much older than her and much bigger than all of us, was next in line but he completely chickened out and said "I didn't want to die" and then took off whatever they clipped on him and then climbed back down (to my chagrin who pre-paid for his experience). To this day my daughter is recalling her experience with fondness, while my son says he "wishes" that he had gone ahead and hopes he has another opportunity to try it.

Trudeau won't be in forever. Poilievre is finally the opposition leader all of us were hoping for, and so it's going to be an interesting few years.

My advice...buy your rifle, though I'd have to say if you can, get an X95 or SL8 instead of the WK (and this from a guy who has a WK).

Really only you can decide this.

I go back a couple of years ago to when they banned the ar-15's and I wish I would have gotten one rather than waited to see what would have happened. Also wanted a nice tactical style shotgun to which I never ended up being able to get before they banned them,

Now when they put on the handgun ban, I bought a hand gun (still waiting for the transfer of it) and traded off a 22-250 for a wk180c.

Im not a poor person by any means, but I cant afford to go blow money on firearms as I see some guys do on this site, so for me it was all about having the chance to own these firearms while I still can.

At the end of the day, the 2000 ish I spent on firearms that I may never be legally allowed to use, is worth it. Im in my early 40s and that is a lot of time for things to change around regarding firearms, both good or bad, and to me the 2000 ish bucks I spent, will forever be worth it.

I can totally get that for some people, 2k would NOT be worth it though. You have to be the one to determine that.

The only way the Kodiak WK180C gen 2 doesn't make the ban list is if the Liberals don't get C-21 passed, or the G4 amendment. We could go into an election before it's even through the senate and the house for final vote. So there is a few routes that could happen where it doesn't get banned by at least Bill c-21. If you buy the Rifle today you would get use out of it for a good while. First they have to come back form winter break, then the committee has to vote on all the amendments and they haven't even got past G4 yet. Then it has to go through the senate, where they may add amendments and send it back to the house for a final vote. That will take awhile. So yes you could use it in the mean time, while you wait for it to be banned if that happens to be the outcome of the legislation.

Personally I would avoid firearms most likely to be added. I've got lots of guns I'd like to own for various reasons. I would just prioritize the ones I thought weren't going to get banned. Though I'll be honest, that doesn't all ways work out to not having your firearms banned. Plenty here can attest to that, as they got ones they thought wouldn't be added to the prohibited list but now are, or will be.

Based on what I saw on SECU 54 the committee agreed to (if I remember right) 8 hearings which will involve travel, which (again if I remember right) may not happen until around April, as part of that travel is to northern locations. I know Damoff and company tried to adjourn rather than suspend the meeting so the amendment talk is off the table but thankfully between the YAYs (CPC + MacGregor from NDP + Michaud from BQ), the meeting was suspended and will resume. Now all that said, the government can OIC the guns in the G4 amendment but I think they are looking at the long game to have it in legislation so only a majority of votes can overturn it, whereas an OIC can be reversed by a PP minority government.

I would agree with other posters that ultimately the decision is an individual one based on finances, risk tolerance, etc. So not gonna slag someone for doing something different than what I would do...but there is still some runway left until there is any semblance of clarity to what is going to happen. Thankfully the WK is NR...

I would.

I'm generally a rule follower.

But when a rule is particularly unreasonable, or I have a particularly good reason for breaking it, and no one else will be hurt by it, then i'm fine with being a rebel.

I don't make a big deal of it, and I don't advertise it, it's just a simple matter of doing what makes sense for me.

For example, there was a tool that I realised would be especially useful for the type of work I do in my shop. Then I discovered that, oddly enough, that tool was illegal in canada. I didn't think long about it before just buying it anyway, and there's been no trouble at all since then - only the bennefit of being able to do my work a little bit better, a little bit easier.

I don't think the government should be in the habit of making my day harder for no good reason.

I have bought two that are on “the list” recently, as well as three handguns prior to Trudeau Singh’s freeze. He can go F himself.

hahahahaha..exactly...good luck if these i---ts ever try to enforce their commie political agendas, my guess they will be long gone before they can get anything done and then it will be reversed by the ones we elect to do so like the gun registry :shotgun::ar15::50cal::canadaFlag:

It factors into the selection process. If the Bushmaster ACR is banned, would you pay 4.5 grand for one? Maybe a CZ858 would do if you are buying out of spite. And give the leftover 3 grand to some organization or party.

At work, most of the under 30 people I know are not buying anything or in the selling market - the counterstrike and post generations have a different perception of guns.
They see them as "toys" and disposable way more than "freedom". They also tend to live at home or have very young family, they are not that emotionally and monetarily invested. They will cash out fast and just move on to the next hobby quickly, especially those who got in just before and around 2020 OIC ban - they have never tasted the "freedom". A young dude turned in his BCL because work moves him to another province, he doesn't want to be bothered.

The above 40 group is all about PVC pipes, fishing trips and only off my cold dead hands. They tend to accumulate, especially those who have properties outside of the city. They are the people doing the buying, and they are not selling or planning to turn anything in. They are the people who are willing to buy guns to spite the liberals. Know a few older divorcees are buying like no-tomorrow.

The more senior folks are split - some want to cash out for their families with their collectibles, some just enjoy their properties and don't care about what the government will or may do anymore.
