Thinking of a design that would be someting like this:

SRC_Mag_Release.jpg

I'm thinking it would come in at the $40-$50 dollar mark. I have made a prototype that is currently working but I'm not gonna show anything yet. Suffice to say you can release the mag with the light push of your trigger finger whether your a lefty or righty (I fire with both hands and it works for me).

Looks interesting, but, you'd be competing with Dlask's extended mag release which is <$30.

I believe lefties love Dlask's design as well because it sticks out so much for a push from the index.

If it allows the "smack the release with the fresh mag and knock the old one out" method, I'm in.

I've thought about that too, but this would allow you to release the mag with your index finger, if you choose to "smack" the mag out afterwards its up to you.

I find the factory option ok but its really small and out of the way for a mag release. Have you ever tried to use it with gloves on?

With which index finger? Strong or weak hand?

Factory works fine with gloves for me, but I want the fresh mag out and in my hand before the old one comes out of the rifle.

I just tried smacking the mag using the prototype and with either trigger finger (shooting left or right) it works fine. There is no way to make the mag drop away like an AR but it does work.

Here are some pics of the prototype. Don't judge by the apperance as the final one will be a one piece metal unit that will replace the existing mag release. Forgive the poor quality as the good camera is still broken.

This is the general shape.

And showing it works.

The lever is very easy to manipulate with the index finger, even with a heavy glove on.

Too big for me. I don't need/want the index finger activation and only need it to come about 3/4" below the trigger guard on the same angle as the original.

I like the idea of an ambi release however I don't think it's neccessary for it to hang below the trigger guard. Just have it take the same shape as Dlask's but on both sides.

Yea I've thought of that too. The reason dlask's is the way it is, is because of the shape of the mag. The release pretty much has to be this way to work. Also I have average to large hands so someone with shorter fingers would have trouble working the release with their index finger while maintaining the rifle sholdered and the firing position.

I've tried the prototype and I can change mags without taking the rifle off the target. This should work well with fire and movement.

This mod should work well with the bolt catch release I'm working on . This way quick mag changes for righties should be easy peasy.
