Air pistol for practice in the house for the non range days or just make a point of hitting the range more often?

Was thinking of a Weihrauch Blackstar just for putzing downstairs but at the price I’m halfway to a nice .22 to compliment my big bores....

At a 495 FPS can it actually be used for anything but punching paper?

What say ye?

I have an airsoft replica of my Sig P226 and my CQB AR...fits my existing holster and pouches and the controls are the same so it’s actually a pretty good simulation for drawing, sight acquisition and pistol / rifle transition. And just for fun, I like to set up mini 2 gun stages in the backyard for the kids and I...

Before getting in powder burning handguns, I was into airguns. I had several Weihrauch pistols and rifles. Really top quality made in Germany. I highly recommend butto me: only for paper punching.
You are looking at a HW45. Be aware that it is spring actioned. Personally I preferred the HW75 which is a pneumatic gun. I had both...

I have a BB trap to hang off the wall of the garage, and S&W M&P bb pistol. On rainy days, or when I don't have time to get to the range, it's fun and lets me get a bit of practice. The "fundamentals" are all the same, even if the recoil is non-existent. The trigger on the thing is so craptacular, it makes any of my actual handguns seem like match triggers in comparison.

Wear eye-pro.

If it is legal to discharge airguns in your property, I'd say yes. Trigger time is trigger time.

I have several airguns but shoot them at the range because we are not allowed by city bylaw to shoot even airguns at home. Ridiculous yeah.

Thanks All, few points to ponder on choices but me thinks I'm doing it. As much as I love my powder burners true range time is not near what I can do in the basement or backyard....

I feel for you!! That is some kind of new level of stupid.... Ugh

Negative. Some towns list BB guns as firearms in their bylaw definitions and thus don't allow discharge of BB guns or paintball guns within townlimits unless under certain conditions. They do not distinguish between higher or lower fps bb guns.

So check your town bylaws to be sure

That only applies to air guns faster than 500 feet/second.

I started with air pistols actually. Don't have space to shoot them at my place but also would if I could. CO2 pellet guns with a magazine are fun to play with when you can't make it to.the range.

I have a nice long hallway downstairs. I have been known to practice every now and then with an airgun. I don't really give a crap what the bylaws say personally.

I have a pair of CO2 powered pistols.

One is cheap, plastic M&P9 replica. Has sights that shoot to POA and has a terrible trigger. I find the terrible trigger actually aids practice because I have to shoot smoothly. If I tried to "snatch" the trigger I would miss the target, the trap and maybe the wall.

The other is a metal replica of a 1911. It runs the slide on each shot, giving some recoil, and has an excellent trigger - like a 1911.

The magazines hold 18 rounds (BBs).

I have been practising weak hand shooting and discovered that shooting air gun twice a day has been very helpful. I can practice different cants, try either eye and when I now shoot a real gun, it no longer feels so weird. And groups are now groups, not "patterns".

So yes, I think airgun can be helpful.

And my grandson likes shooting it too.

Quite so, thanks for the correction.

Absolutely!

Not only would I buy one for practice, I would get a nice one and start shooting 10m AP. Nothing is better for exposing poor technique and teaching you how to shoot well. No recoil to blame when all the holes can't be covered by a quarter; humbling.

Yes those are very nice pistols. If you can find one, they are great to sharpen your skills. I prefer the standard HW45 grip over the black star. FYI, they can smoke and diesel so maybe start the break in in the garage or outdoors.
And shoot a decent pellet. Mine likes RWS Hobbys which can be found for under 3 cents a pellet which equals cheap, quality practice
