At a $800ish ticket price, would you buy a 97A bullpup?

Iranian copy cat, style wise. But based on a G3. These are not type 95 parts though. They just look like it.

OK, I'd take type 97 over this any day.

And why is that? Its chambered in 5.8x42 same as the assault rifle, and correct me if I am wrong but isnt the assault rifle coming in 5.56? So this too if it where even on the table would be 5.56.

88 is trying to be a sniper rifle, or DMR and as such definitely needed different caliber. 7.62NATO or x54 would do. Maybe 5.8 caliber is so much more versatile that it can do for both, assault rifle and long shots. I wouldn't mind having one in 5.8

Yes but if it is made in an export caliber my money is on 5.56. 7.62 sounds like a pipe dream.

The Chinese are claiming their 5.8mm round is the end all and be all of a caliber, superior to the 5.56mm NATO and the Russian 5.45mm. I don't think they'd ever go to a bigger caliber, just to keep their "dream" of it being a perfect round going.

Thats part of the reason a Type 88 in 5.8mm is interesting for me, the Chinese claim its so great so I'd love to "put it in its paces" and to see how well it really is compared to other calibers.

And that will be the reason you will never see it outside of CHina because it will always be the best if only Chinese uses it.

Well they are exporting it to rebels that they are arming as seen in the pictures that were posted before. They just need to realize they should export it to us Canadians as well. :(

No, they only sell to Sri Lankan government forces. But some weapons were captured by the Tamil Tigers in the war.
You may not believe it, until last year, Norinco had a large warehouse near Sri LanKan capital, once authorized by the commanders, Sri Lankan army could go to the warehouse and get whatever they needed. Whatever was not in the Norinco warehouse, would be quickly brought in from China. Now I heard Sri Lanka had some new deals with Poly Technologies.

Considering that Sri Lanka is an island off the coast of India, I for one do not believe that.

Perhaps you mean Burma/Myanmar?

And China would ship guns by boat or air to a warehouse in Ceylon/Sri Lanka?
I would not have guessed that. I guess I stand corrected.
