Would you consider bringing in Norinco 97 bullpups? (Part Deux)

At a $800ish ticket price, would you buy a 97A bullpup?

I thank our importers for considering the Type 97A Project.

The othe guy will charge you $1932 for rifle, scope, tax and shipping. Yes that means $400 for that little Chinese scope. Every other retailer can bring in Chinese scopes for under $50.

I thank you because the longterm security of the Black Rifle community depends on selling as many as possible, unrestricted, and getting them out there. Strength in numbers.

I bet those Red Elite counterterrorist units are the ones deployed to Tibet currently to quell the "terrorist" uprising.

Question...wouldn't it be easier to pick up the rifle for what they are charging now or cheaper if someone else brings them in and just order the Chinese scope from eBay for $50 to $100. I've noticed the $400 EOTech knockoffs on ebay for about $75. It is probably the same manufacturer as the original scope being sent with the rifle to begin with.

That chineese scope is not 50$ piece IMO. At least not the one that was on non-restricted type88. By the way, I went to Lever Arms today, I thought to have another look at that sniper version. It has gone! I was just about to raise my initial offer on the rifle but it has been sold. So, someone decided its worth 3450$ + taxes. I guess after taxes its closer to 4000$. Aparently there were two for sale and both gone. Them snipers maybe coming again, but nothing certain. So, I guess after those two have gone for this much there is no chance for it ever be 800$. Keep dreaming.

To my knowledge, Marstar has only ever commented on trying to import the Type 97 (the one with the carry handle) for a retail price of around $800. The Type 88 (flattop "sniper" version) has only been thrown into the mix by over-eager gunnutz. I'm open to being corrected, but that's my recollection anyway.

Were the 88's at Lever chambered in 5.56? We seem to have contradictory opinions on whether or not the 88's were ever available in 5.56.

CanFire, It wil proly worth givin Lever a call to find out. I had it in my hands, as far as I can see QBU-88 flat top sniper with 26" barrel but chambered in 5.56 and labelled as "type 97A". Absolutely beautiful rifle. I still think I offered about the right price though (considering), 3450$ is way too much.

No wonder there is so much confusion. Is Norinco (or Lever) labelling everying as a Type 97A?

Since you and longshot confirmed that the "sniper" version can be had in 5.56, I want that one for $800 too! :D

I don't have any machining skills but it does look like someone could fairly easily create a cocking latch that goes to the side instead of the straight up one. Pretty easy to be ambi in nature too. That would be way better.

I know I'm going to get shot for this, but the mag system seems to work better with the ak style mags rather than the Stanag. Just need a better mag release system and it might be pretty decent.

I'm passing on the VZ-58 for one of these :D

Good point. Besides with the ARs I should at least have the commi counterpart in my collection. :D. Otherwise it wouldn't be complete.
