BEIJING (Reuters) - Chinese authorities foiled plots to kidnap foreigners and carry out suicide attacks...

That's a very interesting picture. I never saw this type of helmet be used in China. They have a Kevalr version but not steel.

BTW, lots of people has unrealistic price expectation on this rifles. The rifle looks like 1,000+ gun to me, and well worth it.

M16/M4 has been around for tooooooo long, consider that I have seen M16 since I was kid and now I am father of two, we can call M16 "Milsurplus" now.:runaway:

Best quote ever. :D:D

M16 entered service at early 1960's. How many of us are older than that?:dancingbanana:

Of course, it went through many updates.

One thing I don't understand in this thread is that guys want the rifle but keep depress the price. I just saw somebody want a military sniper rifle (T88) at ~$800. What the price US gorverment paid for the latest semi-auto sniper? $7,000.

Let's face it, it's a good rifle, at least as good as "GI" M16. I say 1,000 is a fair price. A price can motivate dealers to go for it.

Dealers have to make a profit to do their business. Yes we get 399$ M14, but that's more like a lottery, we know it's for US but they get banned. We are really lucky to just pick them up. But Type 95/97 is new manufacturing, so go figure.

The bottom line is I want one, and I am willing to pay 1,000 if that will motivate the dealer. Consider it's a bait for the dealers :runaway:

They weren't buying norincos that's for sure! Ask yourself how much the ChiCom governemnt pays for these. I'm guessing WAY less than $1000.

Businesses can sell a few here and there, or a boatload quick. But that is their choice. I prefer they sell lots, since we have more strength in numbers. It is far easier to ban 50 rifles with little protest than 5000.

1,000$ would be my limit to start saving to buy a Type 88 "Sniper rifle" personally. Any more then that and I wouldn't think of buying it.

Reason being is that sure the M14S's seem cheap but the fact of the matter remains, the Chinese are NOT selling them at a loss. Anyone who thinks that has never met/dealt with any Chinese in their lives.

But what do I know, if your willing to spend a small fortune on a gun that costs the Chinese very little to produce compared to a firearm manufactured here in Canada or the US. Well let me know, I'll get my hands on a M14S and sell you it for 2,000$ as thats the cost of the Comparable rifle made here. Since after all its the same rifle so they are worth the same aren't they ?? :D

You ARE good at bargaining!

I believe at $999, Marstar can sell a lot. I know you are right on the cost side but frankly I am a little tired on the old look of M16/4 while the Euro models are ###y but much more expensive.

Oddly enough the M16/AR-15 FULL LENGTH rifles look good to me, all of these shorter versions look ugly to me.

Big reason I'd spend 2,000$ on a SL8 (5.56mm NATO) or 1,000$ on a Type 88 ( 5.8mm Chinese) over the same for a AR-15 rifle only because of the fact I can't use the AR-15 for varmint hunting in Canada. Still the RRA AR-15 A4 NM will eventually end up in my safe. :D

That alone is enough motivation to get me to buy one. How many times have we all seen a nice prohib and thought "DAMN, I should have bought one of those before the ban".

The next time they want to ban a gun for no good reason, they might think twice before alienating thousands of voters.

Michael et al please quit while you are ahead. The last time people tried to up the price, Greentips sent a warning. We are trying to create a new INCLUSIVE club, not exclusive. If we want to pay more, get a SIG. With respect, you just don't have all the facts.

Deckard,

Just remember dealer is the key factor to bring this nice little rifle in. I saw somebody mentioned a price like 500 (if my memory is correct). That's a rip off.

Without firearm business there wouldn't be any firearm community. Antis know they can't touch us but they can pick the "arm dealers". Marstar got police raid and Government is "helping" Epps to do "inventory". I wouldn't mind support firearm business by paying 100 more.

Other than that I am fine and I promise I will no longer mention the price - who knows, maybe you can get T97 free.

That's a tad melodramatic. The Chinese sell them to anyone for $450 US. The disussion has always been high price/few sold vs. moderate price/huge amounts sold. Plus many people said you can get a nice M4 clone for $1300. They have elected to not buy the 97 at all, unless it is costs less than an AR. You simply can get a better restricted rifle, with more options for less.

Mind you, I don't slag those who do buy them at $1500. They are consumers and it is worth it for them, then fine.

John from Marstar has already suggested a price of $800, so why the bidding war?

I have also heard of another possible source, around the same price.
Stay tuned for further developments.

I'm a student, working part-time, and I appreciate the efforts to bring in a 97 for 800$. I will probably jump on that when it is released, I don't have a bottomless wallet and need legroom for ammo :)
