Would you guys consider purchasing an 8 pound .308 hunting rifle ? (not scoped)

I have the very heavy barrel long range target .308 thing covered, the short/light carbine bolt action .308 thing covered and the lightweight trekking around all day .308 hunting rifle thing covered.
I wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole. You wouldn't use it given the other two guns already in use.

Was checking out a custom job .308 built as a hunting rifle, it’s what I’d consider in the medium weight class range I guess.

Trued action (700), high quality barrel company (20” light varmint .700… which is where the extra weight is coming from mostly), McMillan stock in the 2.25 lb range with good recoil pad, nicely worked trigger, sample targets are impressive (well under and inch)

Never really considered a medium 8 pound (un-scoped) hunting rifle, not sure I need one.

The rifle shouldered and pointed well so kinda liked it. Just not sure I’d want to carry it around all day.

Would you buy a heavier hunting rifle on purpose (that’s not a huge caliber thing where you’d want some weight) ??

Don’t need this thing at all but I liked it. Just not sure that’s enough reason to make a move on it.

I wanted a new compact deer and bear hunting rifle. I needed something that is very easy to maneuver in a ground blind, tree stand, and still hunting on my property. By the cabin I can paper punch 180 yards. Hunting deer and bear will be less than 100 yards with 50 yards or less being the realistic distance.

16.5" barrel 308win Rem700 with the Magpul Hunter 700 stock with a 13" LOP, this is the perfect length of pull when I have on the bulky clothes. 8.5 LB without scope, 9 with the scope and 9.5 with scope and 4 rounds of 150gr bullets. Total length of 35.75"

GO FOR IT!!!

my hunting rifle with scope is close to 11lbs ish.
its a bind carrying it with a conventional sling so i converted my sling swivels so
i could use my 3 point sling.
this is the best thing i ever did

Good motivation to get to the gym on the regular.. hunting season (and all that hiking) is a big factor for me to stay in shape all year. For me at my weight and fitness level an extra pound or so won't kill me.. that could change as I get older though.

No I would not consider it. But my choice has nothing to do with weight

Threads like this make me laugh as I deal with bike weight wienies all summer and ski touring weight wienies all winter. I don't know the OP so not judging. If an extra 2, 4, 5 pounds on the rifle is an issue sometimes a look in the mirror will reveal where an extra 10-20 pounds can be saved.

 Not sure I understand that part.

I bought an 8lb .270 hunting rifle no scope. My other rifle is a 9lb .375H&H no scope. Its a strategy actually. To get more guns down the road. When I get too old to lug them around, I have an excuse to my wife to get another gun. That might not work though because were getting her a rifle of her own and its going to be a pretty light weight gun. Not sure what I'm going to say to her when she says, "just use my gun."
