Would you hunt big game with a single shot?

Yes or no to hunting with a a single shot.

i've used a singleshot 30/06 and 243 both NEF for a couple years and i've never had a problem with follow up shots. Shot placement and range time made them my go to guns.
 
In my experience, in the majority of instances, the first shot gets your animal, and the second shot can often be more difficult as the animal may be retreating, running, and further away. So its not really that great of a handicap using a single shot. I'm not much of a fan of taking low probability shots either. I wait until I have a good opportunity.
 
I don't think a single shot gives much if any handicap. I can fire and reload my NEF fast enough there is probably never going to be any real world difference on the outcome of the hunt.
 
Nearly all of my hunting this year was done with muzzleloaders, and longrange rifles that were fired as singleshots even though one would take the cartridges in the magazine. Depending on hunting technique it may not make any difference at all. It's not like you can't load a singleshot again if you need to.
I actually got a double on does with a muzzleloader this year, the first time that ever happened. I was just reloading after the shot when I realized part of the group hadn't left the cover. Compared to that, a singleshot cartridge gun is practically a full auto.;)
 
Ditto here, I use a TC Encore in .300 WM for everything that doesn't have fangs. Then my .444 Marlin comes out.
With a butt shell holder, and lots of "dry practice", I can reload almost as fast as my buds with their bolts. But who needs a second shot anyhow? Right?
 
I hunt singles for big game.
Years of bowhunting has proven to me that one is all you need if you make it count.
I don't see any extra challenge to a single shot...I generally shoot once from my repeaters as well.
I also enjoy the inherent accuracy of most singles.
 
I hunt all big game with single shot rifles now. I have a pair of ruger no 1's. Hoping the 303 brit comes available as an rsi as i already have a no 1 s and a varminter. I save the repeaters for the gopher rifles.
 
Absolutely, yes I would. I really like single shot rifles. I also agree with GH - NEF and TC are not on my "wish" list.
 
And there you have it. All the evidence the anti-semi-auto gun people need. "As endorsed by actual hunters as quoted from the CGN site, hunters only need a single shot firearm. Most, around 86% (now 89% it would seem) so far, actually prefer it. No need to worry about a backlash from hunters because of the banning of all semis and multi round holding firearms, because they actually said in a public announcement that the single round gun works just fine for hunting" We really should pay attention when there is that little warning before voting that says "this is a public forum", meaning the whole public.
