Would you hunt big game with a single shot?

Yes or no to hunting with a a single shot.

Hunt with a single shot, no problem. you just have to be proficient with the loading of the particular rifle..
 
I'd have no problem hunting with a single shot, but I won't starve if I don't kill my dinner. Most, but not all, of my big game were taken with 1 shot. I'm glad to have a second round fast while hunting bear, moose or elk.

The craftsmanship of single shot and double barrelled rifles and shotguns can be very appealing. Some of the most beautiful guns I've seen have been singles and doubles.
 
I do virtually all my hunting with either single shots or express guns, and have for more than 25 years.
the number of times I have hunted with a bolt gun can be counted on one hand.
I usually don't give ANY bolt action hunting rifle a second look.
I don't live in big bear country, but we are getting grizzlies up here now.
The ones that make me very wary however are the cougars....

Almost all of my big game hunting is with a single shot. Various Ruger No1's, Coopers, and a Dakota Predator. Some of my coyote hunting is with an XCR or a 180B though!:D:D:D

If the first shot didn't work, chances are a "quick follow up" won't either.

95% of my big game kills have gone down from the first shot. On the remaining 5%, a second well aimed, controlled shot did the job. The second shot could have been from a single shot or a repeater, it would have made no difference.

Same ole story......single shot, bolt, lever, pump, semi............if you're not sure where that FIRST bullet is going to hit don't pull the trigger.

If you don't overshoot the LEAST of YOUR ability or the RIFLES ability you should be OK.

A SURE SHOT for somebody that shoots hundreds or even thousands of rounds a year at the range with a modern well tuned rifle & scope combo & the FUDD who still has 15 "shells" left in that 20 round box of Imperial "Sabre Tips" he bought in 1975 for his rust pitted MILSURP Lee Enfield "tree-oh-tree" with "off-the-rack" iron sights are likely two entirely different things.

Why wouldn't you hunt big-game with a single shot??

With the exception of hunting dangerous game by yourself, DG without experienced back up or as a dangerous game guide/ph I can't see how its a real constraint?
 
As lots of people said it's the first shot that counts, on another note I rather have many more rounds ready to go in the mag since I'd hate to have one shot only on a charging bear/moose.

Another reason why we should have the rights to taking our handguns with us as well.
 
I have 2 single-shots, both NEF, a .30-30 and a .45-70. I have carried both in the bush and can reload either in under 3 seconds....single shot rifles have the beauty of being simple, there's not much to go wrong.

I have two s/s frames and 5 barrels one is a 45-70 barrel but I haven't shot big game with it yet...
