Would you mind helping me ID my sks?

Haha yeah thanks for that. I've been watching a ton of videos on cleaning this old girl out. The hour ling video from iraqveteran888 seems to be the best so far.

Thanks for the link!

Edit: I actually found his site yesterday, I guess I was looking for other possible options. I think if I went with that fell I would send him the whole bolt/carrier and go for the whole package.

I didn't see anywhere on that site that he does trigger jobs, do you happen to know otherwise?

Thanks again!!

The IV88 video on SKS trigger jobs is good, and this procedure is simple and effective. BUT beware! You must have adequate trigger resistance, let's say at least 4 lbs or so. Otherwise slam fires may occur. People have died as a result.

Both my sks have a pin welded in the mag. Looks pretty flimsy but it should hold up for a while. Its ridiculous these rifles are restricted to five rounds. At least make it 10 so you can use the full mag. I can see maybe not allow 30 round after market mags, but come on...

They say, if you have a slamfire, you control only 4rnds, not 9.

Somebody needs to post a non-matching mag thread to help some owners reunite with their long lost mags

Lol I love this idea.

For those who asked for more pics.... I finally finished cleaning her out, I love this rifle. Some obvious signs of use but that is totally fine, she's got a story to tell. It was a privilege to clean her all out and get ready for the range.

I took her right down, the only part I did not disassemble is the trigger group. I am just not that comfortable yet. The butt plate and hinged door had a ton of corrosion and cosmoline. I ended up taking my dremel with a wire wheel to it. End result looks good, but the spring has lost a lot of life leaving the door sort of flapping in the wind. A little disappointing but it's fine.

It was a great experience and I am looking forward to cleaning my other SKS.

Anyway, here's a few pics of the end result... sorry I'm not much of a photographer...20200524_130037.jpg20200524_130020.jpg20200524_125957.jpg20200524_125929.jpg

It does look like a non refurb but the mag was replaced at one point
It also looks like it has the stampings around the cross bolt on the stock
The r after the year is what the Russians call ā€œyearā€, so your rifle was made in year 1951
You can also check the stake marks on the bayo bolt to see if they were restaked at one time
And also see if the ser number is electropencilled under the rear sight
Nice rifle!

The serial is in fact under the rear site, sorry I never got a picture of it.

I'm pretty happy with it especially being a Cabelas purchase. All matching except the mag and it has clearly seen some use, which I like :)
