Would you pay $449 for 1120 rounds of norinco .223?

"Brass is a metal alloy made of copper and zinc; the proportions of zinc and copper can be varied to create a range of brasses with varying properties. It is a substitutional alloy: atoms of the two constituents may replace each other within the same crystal structure."

Brass is an alloy, it is not mined by itself

how is the US dollar affecting this? The US have nothing to do with Chinese firearms and ammo, especially surplus ammo from several decades ago. Is the Yuan stronger v the Canadian dollar since then? if so, is it that much?

Id bet money that the Chinese want paying in us funds.

I grabbed 1000 of .223 federal at CT a few weeks ago for 449 before CT money discount. I would be ok with shooting norino ammo but my wife said she won't shoot that "chinese material" out of her rifle.

Someone has been having a good Valentine's Day lol..

I'm picking up what you're saying badboybeeson. Luckily a couple fine cgn'rs hooked me up much cheaper than this price. I now have enough, and I mean enough ammo. But I will be buying some powder from you soon.

Yep wine hitting me bit much

Yes price of 223 us way way up. I think this is why reloading is up 1000%
After talking to dillon rcbs and Lee, they are at capacity for making products

^^ Holy smoke! I scored a few bricks of 500 at the North Battleford Co-op a couple of weeks ago for $198 tax in. Hornady 17gr. Also saw it at the Assiniboia gun show this weekend for $17.99 + tax.

Edit: I see Cabela's and WSS have the same ammo for $22.99 + 10% tax. Nothing like staying ahead of things, eh?

Actually it was

bought six cases from there in the beginning of December for 369..put a real hurt on my CC but I should be good for a few years..have run 2 full cases thru my sig M400 and no problems other than its a bit dirty..but I clean after every range trip so no biggie

Your getting off cheap for the choice of ammo.
I just bought 500 rounds of 17HMR for 240 taxes in.
So, when comparing caliber to caliber, your doing well.

$24 per 50 17hmr? Wow- price jump. I bought a couple cases a few years ago at $11.99 per 50 and thought that was steep.

well yeah... I could go with a single stage and take forever to reload my 223 but I'm not in a hurry and prefer to wait and get the progressive setup I think.

Doesn't take me forever. Was loading around 100 an hour fmj pretty easily. That is with brass prepped ready to roll. Dump powder, seat bullet, done.

I agree. you can load fairly fast with a single stage. I can do 150-200 an hour if all the stars line up.

Of course its faster with a progressive, but if you want a good one, its expensive. And you can make bad mistakes much more easily. Plus, I think a decent single stage is inherently more accurate than a progressive, due to less parts, less slop. I load rifle for accuracy, not volume.

I will get a progressive down the road, once I am more confident in my abilities and knowledge. The other thing is, you can't really load pistol ammo all that cheaply now with the costs of components. You might save 5-10c a round. Maybe. It takes quite a while to pay off that $1000 setup at 5c per 9mm.
