Getting a .22lr rifle first, plan on getting a handgun as well eventually. Would you suggest getting a handgun in .22 as well to save $ on buying different ammo or in a different caliber like 9mm for variety/fun?
Get the 22 pistol, not just to save money although you will but to build your skills. Also you should always have a 22 (rifle and pistol) to introduce other new shooters.
