If you saw a sasquatch, would you shoot it?

Being a man of science, I think I would. You can't describe a new species without a specimen, thus I feel like it would be my duty, for science... It would really help if it was bear season, because I wouldn't want to shoot a sasquatch only to realize I just poached a black bear...

So what say you? Would you pull the trigger? Why or why not?

Since you don’t know it’s cognitive ability couldn’t that be considered murder if they rival our intelligence?

They must be smart if they’ve stayed hidden this long.

Sasquatch know if you mean it harm it is why some people come out of the woods to tell stories or not to tell and why some are never heard from again. I like pizza is why I would not even think of shooting and he knew this.

Shoot em in the leg...if its a guy in a costume, shoot him again for being stupid.

Too cute LOL

Just curious, was it the recent Meateater podcast that brought this to mind for you? They discussed this exact issue.

To answer your question, assuming they exist, I couldn't shoot one other than for self-defense, because I'd be too concerned about whether I'm murdering a person vs. harvesting an animal.

Yeah that started it. Now I'm listening to the podcast by the lady they were talking to (Wild Thing).

I don't believe in sasquatch, as a man of science I don't have any solid evidence to make me a believer, but I was curious as to what other people's opinion is on shooting one...

For the record I am absolutely NOT trying to start a debate on whether they exist, I am only interested in opinions on whether you'd shoot one...

Only in self defence. I am assuming that if they exist, they must be sentient and self-aware. That makes them closer to people than prey, so no-go from a 'sporting" perspective. Now if there were a bounty, that might make a difference....

I have had this conversation with many people and do not recall one person saying they would not shoot one if given the opportunity.
Whether or not you actually could in the moment is another question.
Think it would greatly depend on the circumstances.
Are you in a extremely remote area,is it so close there is no mistaking it was the real thing, would you consider it a animal more then some subhuman? E.t.c
If it is real you could argue the only way to protect them is to bring one in to prove its existence so measures could be put in place to protect there habitat etc.
Interesting scenario to ponder non the less.

For the sake of discussion, let's assume they exist, but in very small numbers.

I wouldn't shoot one. To me, it doesn't matter if they have the same intelligence as humans, sentient or if it's just the neighbors kid in a gorilla suit. I simply would not want to contribute to the extinction of one of the rarest species on earth.

Yeah I would blast it and have it mounted on my wall next to my ogopogo, abominable snowman, easter bunny, and my picture of an honest politician.........
