Would you shoot a swimming bear/deer/moose?

So say you are out fishing and you see something swimming across a river or lake. You have a tag and a gun. Would you shoot it? Or would you consider it unethical/unfair chase?

Or is it illegal where you live?

To me ethical means making a clean kill within the confines of the law, if I can get a clean kill on a swimming animal, I have no issue with that.

I personally wouldn't shoot either one swimming. But if the law in your area allows you to shoot animals swimming and you can make a ethical/clean shot then by all means go for it.

I don't recall ever seeing it in the NB regs, but that doesn't mean much. The booklets aren't exactly an exhaustive collection of the rules.

I've dropped a deer on the side of a beaver pond in muskeg country. Last time I ever make that or any related mistakes.

Just think how much fun it would be to retrieve the animal afterwards. There's also the issue of a miss. Where's your bullet going to ricochet off to?

Illegal in Manitoba. I hear back in the old days, guys used to motor right up to the moose, shoot it in the head with a 22, and float it back to the dock or boat ramp. I have no problem with that if its sustanance hunting, but few need the meat anymore, so I'd rather see it done more sporting.

I should have been more clear before about ontario: it's illegal for anyone but indians. I witnessed that motoring right up to moose in the water and shooting was pretty standard around Deer Lake, ON.

What are you arguing is legal? Not what the question asked, Would you shoot a swimming bear/deer/moose?

What is illegal (in Manitoba) is what was asked about, Would you shoot a swimming bear/deer/moose?
The fact a power boat is not a vehicle when the motor is no longer in operation and it has stopped coasting, has nothing to do with making it legal to shoot a swimming moose. Sure, you can shoot a moose from the boat, but the moose has to be on shore, not swimming.
