Its just a deer. I've shot a buck smaller then that, and would do it again. deer do nothing for me, burger with 4 hooves.

so I would suggest that it is your attitude that sucks, and while we're on that topic I suggest you go find a big fat #### to suck?

thanks for comming out.

Thanks Amphibious for writing my thoughts before me. I hunt ducks for challenge, entertainment etc. etc.. Big game is solely to put healthy meat in my freezer. I don't even apply for bull moose tags (cow tags pop up more often) .

Tonight I put the loins of the 3 deer pictured here on the grill and served them to 5 people invited for dinner in a blind taste test. The forkhorn won hands down. I can shoot at least 4 deer a year every year so the quality of the meat is important. Young bucks, non-nursing does and yearlings are the best meat out there.

BTW. This is the buck I shot this year. If two deer step out and one is bigger than the other I shoot the big one, otherwise if it's legal it's dead.

and this is the fist buck one of my 15 year old students shot while hunting with me several years ago. His second deer was a doe the next year and his third was a button buck. Last year my deer season lasted 5 minutes and consisted of a set of whitetail twins shot off their mother's teats. Could cut the meat with a fork.:D

Hunt what you wantto hunt and leave the holier than thou attitudes to the antis.

If two deer step out and one is bigger than the other I shoot the big one,
thats what im saying go look for another day and find a bigger buck
If you cant the not so scared of people deer will still be there and hell you could probably hit him with a hammer and save the money of a bullet

I would shoot buttons, I don;t hunt for trophy's.... I hunt for meat, buttons looks perfect to make into some sausage and pepperoni, maybe som jerky too would be nice.

I have a small freezer and a big deer does not interest me.... shooting buttons is both ethical and ecological. the big 3 point has made it thru at least one winter and is of breeding age, while buttons may well die during the winter and still has a year or two before he is viable for breeding.

IMO, to each his own. I prefer to eat elk, moose, beef in that order - deer meat does nothing for me so I hunt bones.
What does bother me is the "great white hunters" who show up every Sat. morn of the season at my parent's farm and get exited about the herd of muley does out feeding in the 2nd growth alfalfa. Its not much of a challange to step out of your brand new Chevy, in your $300 boots and lean your custom superduperblowemtosmithereens magnum over a hay bale to shoot a doe at 50 yards.
THATS NOT HUNTING

I don't CARE to put the time or effort into it. By Nov. 1 I've hunted for two months already and the wife is getting antsy to say the least. Waterfowl feathers are strewn across the backyard destined to remain there until the first lawn cutting in spring. The picket fence is stained with the blood of a couple hundred ducks and geese and the dog is bone weary and arthritic.

Deer season is the culmination of my hunting season and is for meat only. Should Bambi with spots and all, sporting a pink collar that said "Taffy" on it come out and try to suckle my .280 Remington, he's going into the freezer. The sup antlerless tags are there for a reason.

No matter how long I simmer them I can't get the horns to taste good.

If you want pepperoni and sausages road kill will work just fine

see daniel, your not seeing the point.... in this country the wildlife is owned by everyone. Do you believe in property rights ??

by this person treating this wildlife as a pet they are infringing on my property rights, it is my legal right to hunt, it is my legal right to take any animal that is of legal size.

are you trying to infringe on my rights daniel ?

There is no doubt that shooting of does and small bucks is a usefull managment tool, with the amount of road kill seen around the City of Calgary, there should be more animals taken.
Point is, it should still be somewhat of a challange to harvest game.
A pet deer - one you could probably kill with a baseball bat - should be passed upon.
I would consider it unethical

I guess we'll all have to agree to disagree
and you are the guy that will keep the balance
deer isnt good meat in my opinion so the meat = jerky = bonus
and as for the legal right to shoot a little deer good for you
legaly your allowed to do 100kmph down the highway.... but if there are kids on the side of the road Id hope your considerate enough to slow down even though you dont have to
same with a pet deer

Well i dont think u have a RIGHT to hunt... but thats simantics.
some people hunt for groceries, others hunt for trophy...generaly, my trophy room is my deep freeze.
But even I definatly would NOT shoot a buck that size, as you might as well just hit a doe once you get that small; but I couldn't give a d@mn if he is someone's "pet"
...either way, I'm just a very pro-death person.

No. Should be shot on sight and removed from the gene pool. You want a pet deer, get a game farm license and a high fence. Challenge is part of it but sometimes luck and other people's idiotic decisions put a venison "osso bucco" in front of you.

if you saw this "pet" at 150 yds would you know it was a pet ?? and could you still kill it with a baseball bat at that range ?

Don't try to compare dangerous driving with shooting legal deer just because you want to win an argument.
So you don't like deer meat, you shoot them only for antlers??
This one has run its course, I'm out.

deer is not good meat in your "opinion"..... I care about as much for your opinion as you do for mine, I love deer meat, especially whitetail's taken before the rut, and as an aside a nice little fork will not taste as bad as that big 3 point will during the rut if that is the only time of the year you have to hunt.

there are many reasons to ake a smaller animal over a bigger one, the bigger one has shown the will to survive and has done so thru thick and thin, the little fork does not know anything and hs chances of survival are small if it is a bad winter.

I have 30# left of a nice whitetail fork a buddy shot, nice farmers sausage, some italian sausage and some steaks. best food ever.... mix a little pork fat in with your deer and I think you will enjoy it more.
