ethics about wounding aside, If a shot is well within your ability, it is not cruel or unethical.

that being said, if you think that you may not score a lethal shot, dont do it.

I stalk spring bears for fun. Often don't shoot. Otherwise the meat is the purpose, so I shoot when I get a good opportunity.

Yeah, I do the same with spring black bears....I'll empty the chamber and dry fire if its not the one I'm looking for. Last year I stalked the same bear at least 3 different times....nicknamed it patch, cuz it had a small patch of missing hair above one eye.

350 is my limit, but only when I practise regularly.

I've shot and killed two deer at that range, not that hard if it's not windy and they are standing broadside with a decent rest.

The last deer I shot was 257 paced off which I shot offhand. It was in the middle of a field and I ran out of fencerow.

Absolutely.

Not with my SKS or 30:30 Marlin though.
But yes absolutely with any of my Heavy Barreled Target/Precision Rifles.

500 yards is where I need to truly review the whole situation, which gun and load combo I'm carrying, and what the weather is that day. Inside of 500 yards my 7-08, 308, 300wm are all capable and I am confident to take the shot. My WT this year was 430 yards, put it down with the 7-08.
