Would You?

newer gen scope means newer glass and glass coatings. Hows the image compare through them? I'd assume the vx would be clearer image, better light transmission.

I've noticed a definite trend in optics in recent years... meaning last 20 years or so and that is the steady reduction in glass quality of lower priced scopes in order to justify the high price of the recently made ridiculously expensive scopes. They literally sabotage low end to justify and sell high end.

I would not say the high end scopes of today are optically any better than the high end scopes of 30 years ago, but I would say the mid range glass of today is much worse than the mid range glass of 30 years ago. Low end has always been junk and premium glass has been excellent for many many years.

I've seen the same marketing philosophy applied to digital cameras where new models of point and shoot cameras have lower mega pixels than the predecessor model. They claim the image has less noise but that's BS marketing cover story designed to sell premium cameras.

So bottom line is the OP is talking about trading an older VX3 for a newer VX 2 which is a down grade for two reasons.

Another example is a 30 year old Lupy VX3 6.5-20x50 scope I sold recently. The glass on that scope was considerably better than the new equivalent VX3 model they call a Mark 4.... Which is in reference to the Mark 4 tactical target turrets BTW.
