I'm about to get so much flack for this, but if someone offered me an SKS as a gift, I'd tell them that it's okay, they need it more then I do.

In consideration of the deep sh!t you can get into for disobeying even one of the myriad restrictions and then lose your pal and guns and maybe your freedom I wouldn't accept ANY handgun even as a gift.
Don't want one in or around my home with the present laws in canada .
When the laws change so we can carry and hunt with handguns in the woods then maybe.
