wow 200 for a bull tag plus entry fees ontario

If you stop all calf hunting, you may as well stop all cow hunting because they could have a calf and if they go down, the calf is likely to die. At least that’s the logic I was told was behind the policy.

Giving everyone a calf tag by default always seemed odd to me.

It never made sense to me in ON to start the calf season 2 weeks after adult rifle season. How many calf/cow combos could have been taken instead of taking a cow and leaving the calf to fend for itself, which has been done. Just coming back from north of Longlac with all the huge wolf tracks we saw, any chance of orphaned calf survival would probably be close to nil. Most of the locals said they would burn a cow tag on a calf first.

You still might be OK because they give out so many tags in that area. I was with a group that hunted Geraldton for 30 years with lots of success but the last time we went(over 10 years ago) we saw little moose sign and alot more hunters. The older fellas said it was sure not the same as when they started hunting the area.

Same with Grant area 18b where we saw 1 moose track in 10 days. Wolves running the logging roads at night and leaving huge tracks. Talked to quite a few groups who were ready to call it quits on the area, as well as our group. Hit the limit on birds, but it's a long way to go for just that.
