Bought a banged up JM 1973 336 in 35 Rem from a CGNer a while back, and just got it out to the range for the first time today. Wow I love this round! Low recoil, good accuracy up to 200, and something so awesome about firing 200gr bullets out of a lever action. I have a couple 30-30s as well, but I think 35 Rem is my new go to hunting round.

Anyone know why the cartridge has fallen out of favour so much compared to the 30-30? I was pretty impressed with the performance, was hitting 2 MOA at 100 consistently with a Weaver K3 (3X) scope on it.

You won't regret it either, especially if you handload. I've had a few Marlins in .35 and found them to be super in the bush as well as accurate to 200 yds. in off-hand rifle shoots. Load the bugger with 110 gr. hollow points to a speed around 2600+ fps. and watch gophers & feral cats explode when you hit 'em in the wet spot!:)

Remington Custom Shop will build folks a bolt rifle based on the Model 7 action, but the price & wait time is somewhat scary.

As with a lot of factory offerings, the .35 Remington got overshadowed by the latest hyped up loadings of the times. Fook 'em. Learn it's limitations and enjoy the rewards.:)

If you want low recoil and a bunch of fun, 158 SWC and a case worth of Trail Boss.

I can't remember if it was a 100yds or 75yds, so we will go with 75, it will go thru (3) 1 gallon milk jugs with ease.

The .35 Remington is very under rated nowadays. It is a far better killer on deer, bear and moose than the .30/30 class of rounds. It is easy to make bullets that expand beautifully at .35 velocities. I think the lack of popularity of the .35 relates more to the popularity of the rifles it was introduced in than it's effectiveness. The Remington models 14/141 and 8/81 were never wildly popular as woods rifles though they were good enough rifles. The lever rifles pretty much had the market for woods rifles sewn up by the time the Remington pumps and semi automatics came along. If the model 1894 Winchester hadn't come along things might have been different.

My favourite deer caliber! I LOVE shooting it out of all my vintage Model 14/141 pumps and 8/81 semi autos! I have a few early Marlin levers in that cal. too. There is something about hunting with my Model 8 made in 1906 in .35 Rem that really makes me smile! 110 years old this fall and still thumping deer with that big, fat, 200 gr. pill doing 2100 ft/s! Not that it needs more speed, but if you reload or buy the Hornady Leverevolution ammo, you can get something like an extra 200-300 ft/s out of it!

Within it's appropriate range 150-200 yards max. it is awesome. Within Southeastern Ontario's bush ranges of less than 100 yards, it is just perfect!

I have a JM it shoots the 200 Hornady RN very well, I also have a handi rifle in 35 R with the 200 FTX it shoots around 3/4" groups. Its a great cartridge, that kills well with little recoil.

Absolutely it is a great caliber! Your remarks about the low recoil and accuracy are right on!

I heard about it but when I got to try it with a .35 Remington Model 8 and Model 141. WoW! So rare to find something that is even better than what you heard about it and expected. :)

Oh jeez my shopping list is growing pretty quickly haha. I'm going to pick up some 158 gr JHP today, some 110 gr, and some 220 gr thumpers.

I wonder if the JHP rounds are legal for hunting. As far as I can tell, the requirement is only for expanding ammo, which they are, but I always thought jacketed was a no-no... So much reloading to do, so little time...

Mine is a 141. My favourite gun of the bunch.
I use a shotgun sling with loops on the ends to carry in the bush so I wouldn't have to install swivels.

Buddy took my 336 in 35rem home with him.
Kinda miss it.
Still have all the reloading supplies out in the shop.
Haven't the heart to sell them yet.
It was a dang fine shoot'in eye-run..........

As I said before, the Marlin's wood was beaten up really bad. I'm actually pretty good at refinishing, but this one was beyond my skills for sure. So, I figured I'd try my hand at painting it. This one was never gonna be a collector's piece and I couldn't get that wood back to looking good, but I'm happy with how it turned out I think. Looks like a hunting tool to me :)
