one of my new ones I plan on making fire engine red, while keeping the black grips
then no one should question if its a "commie" gun
The actually color is darker then the picture shows. The camera and lighting made it look lighter. It is actually a dark grey.
Not really sure how the coating is gonna hold up. It is a engine enamel that I baked on. It seems alright so far but I havent fired it yet. Never refinished a gun before so didnt want to spend a lot incase I messed it up. As for the pin it didnt scrath when I put it back on but I was carefull.
hmmm, thats an interesting cheap alternative to try, I already have red, and orange engine enamel in the garage too, although if it smells as bad in the oven as it does when it first bakes onto the engine, I might not want to try it until its a lot warmer out.
So true. I had all the windows open while doing it. The woman wasnt too impressed when she came home either. She didnt care I was using the oven just didnt like the smell.

You should have seen mine when I was prepping my old rims for paint, I was using the bathtub to clean em' up...... it probably wouldn't have been too bad, but it was a fiberglass jettub.........

A friend of mine did some motorcycle parts with engine enamel and baked them at around 230F for a couple of hours. Once it cooled down he found that it was pretty darn tough for a single component paint. Will it be as tough as a gun specific finish like DuraKote? I doubt it but so far he says that his riding pants and boots rubbing on the engine enamel hasn't done more than make a slight scuff. And if you've seen motorcycle boots you'll know that this is high praise indeed.
Oh, and engine enamel isn't a paint that changes when it's baked. All you're doing is helping to drive off the solvents sooner and achieve the same level of toughness you'd get if you let it naturally air dry for a month to 5 weeks. However most of us, me included, are not that patient so bake away....

A small toaster-oven in the workshop is great for this kind of stuff. I bake small bike parts sometimes in mine... And no, it doesn't double as a breakfast toaster, it's permanently installed in my shop

Accurate enough for me
I shot the Tokarev today for the first time, good grouping and hit target dead center 3 times out of 8. The rest were not far off.
Ugly gun as s@#% though and bites your hand if you don't hold carefully.

A small toaster-oven in the workshop is great for this kind of stuff. I bake small bike parts sometimes in mine... And no, it doesn't double as a breakfast toaster, it's permanently installed in my shop
another good idea, I havnt used my toaster oven in about 10 years now, but I havnt thrown it away incase I want to use it..... now I have a use, lol
Range Report
I had 1 stovepipe, other than that my Black Star ran perfectly. Before going to the range I had stripped, deburred, and polished the feed ramp. The sights are crude but effective. My groups weren't too good but that was operator error.
My buddy was at the range with his new M213 as well, same ammo, same pre-range tune-up. No operational issues. His shot wilder at first but after 100 rounds it calmed down, or he did and that little pistol ran great.
