Wow....$99 pistol....Norinco M213

so I spend today shaving the bottom to make the mag release, still a bit off, how did you guys solve the problem, pictures would be nice, oh and did you guys cut the other side of the release button?
 
I found a dremel with a stone wheel bit is the easiest to make a few adjustments..... Cutting with a knife left an ugly hole/cut. I tried scissors to try to trim off a little bit here and there, specifically where the grip extends past the frame on the bottom.

Then I got to thinking.....

I took the belt sander to it to shave some off the top & bottom, seemed to work pretty good.

I bought 3 sets.... 2 for my 213's and 1 for a buddy. I figgure if I bugger one up I got a spare, if I don't destroy one I'll sell it to my buddy!

Pics to come in a bit of my first attempt...... I want to tweak it a little more before I post.

Now I just gotta figure out where to get an extended mag release so it isn't buried in the grip.........

Range report

Well I finally got out to the range with my M213. I shot 3 magazines into this target from 10 meters offhand. Not too bad for a "junk" $99 pistol :eek: Didn't have any FTF's or FTE's.

Look inside the mag well using a flashlight. You'll see that they each have a thin metal toggle that locks them to the frame. One is a simple arm and the other is a T shape with the leg of the T extended down to the mag well opening. The end has a slot in it that you can fit the blade of a screwdriver into and push it to the opposite side to cause the toggle ends up deeper in the well to rotate away from the frame. At that point you can carefully push the grip out of the frame. That'll expose the other simple arm which you can similarly use the screwdriver to rotate until it is clear of the frame and push that side grip out.

Be careful, the plastic for the grips is hellishly brittle. I didn't break mine but I used a lot of care to avoid a really hard point contact. Once off I lightly filed the edge that fits into the opening where it had evidence of hard pressure.
 
I was wondering without reading this whole thread. If you replace the 9x19mm barrel with the 7.62x25mm barrel would this all that would be needed to return this handgun to it's original configuration?

It's in this thread a ways back.

No - not with the M213, but you can with the TT-33 and the Norinco 54-1. TThe M213 was purpose-built for the shorter 9mm and there are slight differences in the hammer group and bolt/slide that prevent the use of the longer 7.62x25TT.

Some guys have claimed you can do it with a simple barrel and mag change, but none have actually proven that. Show me proof and I'll gladly change my mind.
 
To remove the grips.

Look in the bottom and see the little tab right by the edge of the magwell. In this picture I painted the retainer white so you can see it clearly. The end with the tab is what you will see. Swing this tab so the two arms will clear the frame.

Fitted the first one tonight. OK. is there some secret to taking the rubber one off? I made some razor adjustments with it in place, now I want to smooth it with my dremel.

How hard do you have to pull this thing.. Hard or ****** hard?

I know there are little blocks on the inside that stick intot he magwell area but I don;t have 3 hands to take it off.

Just like to add: Beautiful. Looks so good. Feels like a solid piece of just the right too for the job with this grip on it.
