those prices gota be old ! ? if they arent I gota figure out if you can get a permit for importing ammo as well, hell I'll even drive down and pick em up if I can get the paper work.

The ammo prices down there are still pretty cheap. We can't have ammo like that up here because all ammo has to be approved and its expensive to get new ammo approved and for surplus ammo usually to get it approved often the government won't allow it in because of the chemicals in the ammo.
I doubt if you can get a permit for importing ammo, the US right now is very strict in what you can or can't import and it has of course to be a approved ammo. I believe it takes something like 10 grand out of pocket to get ammo approved.
As for going down to get the ammo, it is legal to bring quantities over the Canadian border, however possession of that ammo in the US is an offense and if you get caught by US customs you will be fined and probably lose your car.

The funny thing is, drive down to Grand Forks or Fargo ND, and the brand name ammo like Winchester, Federal, etc is typically more expensive than we are buying it here. I'm wondering if that's because a store like SIR buys its ammo a year's worth at a time, so its pricing is based on the time of purchase.

I was in the US last week and in a Wal-Mart. Funny to see ammo just stacked on open shelves. They only had some of the more expensive ammo behind glass.

Federal bulk pack 22's were about $10, Remington 12ga slugs were 8$ for a 15 pack. The bulk pack ammo was much cheaper but other ammo was comparable.
 
On a marathon drive last year from NS to MB, we stopped at SSM, ON for the night and crossed into Sault, US for a bit of shopping. The Walmart there was carrying 9mm and 223 bulk packs for the same, if not more, as Canadian stores. I wasn't sure if that was just to discourage cross-border shoppers or if it simply reflected current market prices. It did come as a bit of a shock though, as only a year before, I was seeing the same bulk packs at Walmarts in Virginia and Georgia for nearly half of what we were paying in Canada.

There are still some deals out there but you have to go looking. Then there's the pesky matter of getting arrested just before you cross back into Canada. Maybe in my younger days.....

Only thing is in Grand Forks the selection is beyond belief, the stores carry everything, nothing is ever out of stock and the employees cater to your every need. Shopping in Wpg at any gunshop, you need to slap someone upside the head with a Louisville Slugger just to get some attention. Then nothing is in stock and then there's the six month wait to order stuff.

Grand Forks vs. Wpg. Not even a fair fight. Plus you can actually drive in Grand Forks without getting stopped at every interesection from lights/camera's!
 
fgw has a very bad reputation for riping people off.. I would not consider their prices as accurate as they most likely do not have the stock.. do some searches on them, bad people
