WOW! That CZ858 was way too loud for me ...

Shot a buck with my CZ858 tonight. I have the standard muzzle break that I got from Wolverine Supplies - if my memory serves me right. That thing is absolutely too loud. Is there an effective muzzle break out there that doesn't leave me with permanent hearing loss???? Type loudly, I can't hear a thing ...

The CZ 858 does not come with a muzzle brake. If you purchased the stock CZ brake, which is the same as I have, I cannot understand why you say it is loud.
I think it works really well in reducing the Sound and Recoil of the Rifle.

Why do you need a muzzle brake for hunting. There is hardly any recoil from the 7.62x39 rounds. Try taking off the muzzle brake before going out. Unless you can't shoot and need 3 quick shots to bring down your game, but I would consider practice if this is the case.

Muzzle breaks don't have any sound reducing aspects. They are for reducing recoil for faster follow up shots. Typically, they increase the perceived noise on any rifle substantially due to them dispersing the gasses, etc. in different directions and so on.

I use a break for hunting because I have my gun sighted in with the break and find that the POI changes when the break is removed - not much mind you - but the POI does change, and I don't want to sight it in continually. Needing a subsequent shot to bring down game? I practice more than 99% of people and shoot quite well and have had to fire more than one shot at running game or game that takes the lead and continues to run. If you hit your deer perfectly while leaning out the window of your pickup resting on the mirror, then great.

I have seen many different breaks on 858's on this board and was just wondering if any of them were less loud than the Wolverine/Marstar break?

Hmmm - do you have a pic of your brake? I've never found the change the sound much for the shooter, but if I'm next to the guy with the break I really notice it!

Perhaps it was something about where you were? A big tree or something put you in a nice little acoustic focal point?

I think that you hit the nail on the head. I was on a trail with large hills and trees on either side - essentially in a funnel for the sound, but sometimes a person has to shoot in tight spaces. I agree, when I shoot beside a buddy with a break - it is really a killer on the ears. Thinking of going to some kind of earplug that allows me to hear normal sounds, but blocks the KERBLAMO!!

Taking multiple shots at a running dear is a questionable practice to begin with. If you have to take a follow up shot to put a dear out of it's misery that is a different story. If you are confident enough than all the power to you but unfortunately all brakes create alot of noise.

I believe Dlask makes a flash hider that will not sound as loud as the muzzle break. As for reducing the noise of a firearm, is illegal to do so, unless you can find sub-sonic ammo.

I just ordered the surefire ear plugs as well from CP Gear. They are supposed to let through 80decibels and under and block or dampen the sounds above that range.

short barrel a and a muzzle break , thats a recipe for huge noise. 7.62 is pretty tame, i'd take off the brake.

Ahem, he's right, you know. Look it up.

Yes, I have several muzzle brakes, and they all make the rifles LOUDER!

whatever...

I poped two rounds off this fall with an nea muzzle break and no plugs, was a bit loud but dind't make my ears ring.

Shhhh!

I've been wondering how well these work. Have any of you got experience with them?
