We are out visiting some family on the Queen Charlotte Islands,B.C.
So I'm wandering about and I go to a building supply & a little of everything store on the south end of the island and I saw the highest priced fixed magazine SKSs I have ever ran across. For the small sum of $375 + 12% HST I could have been the owner of an average condition refurb Russian laminated stock SKS.God! I paid around $170 for the exact same thing at home (Alberta).

Everything is more expensive in B.C.,
gas at $1.30 ish /L,
Except here on the QCI it is $1.60/L

Everything is damn pricey over here!I guess I was taken aback a little by the markup on those rifles, and the few other rifles/shotguns in the rack were a bit overpriced too. However, this was the only store I have been in here that actually sells firearms. So I guess they have a captive audience and the market cornered.

BC stands for Bring Cash
and the CIBC bank stands for Come in Bring Cash
we have idiots who Riot for a f**king hokey cup not for its TAXes and prices.
also drivers licensing sucks. the drivers even ####tier. ICBC sux more ASS than everything else.

what else would you like to know about BC?

The overpriced SKS phenomenon is not endemic to just B.C. A quick glance at the EE proves this.

There are some dreamers in the EE that have been trying to sell their sks's for about 150% of what you can buy them for from the store.

These guys have like 5 or 6 bumps in their threads. After a few month of bumping you would think they'd get the hint and reduce their asking.

Stupidity knows no bounds.

Most SKS's i shopped for were under 239.99, the lowest i saw them were 179. and even bought one for 125. So its not over priced.

Shop local, they say.

Yeah, right!

Get a SKS, decently priced, from a site sponsor.

Maybe add 25 bucks, or so, for shipping.

Didnt get the memo??
A tapco stock with a cheap $50 bushnell red dot = $220 over cost of new plus the $50 to clean it after they shot a couple hundred round through it. Steal of a deal if you ask me lol

Laminated stock SKS's are around $200. $375 is outrageous. Even if it had a tapco stock and crap on it, wouldn't be a good deal.

Ive mentioned this before but there was a guy at the Dawson gun show last year with a seriously bubbaf**ked SKS on his table that another guy was looking at. It was a well used Russian with alot of wear and marks in the bluing and a similar conditon tapco stock, dust cover scope mount and a cheap ass chinese scope. It had some kind of ugly home made brake welded to the muzzle with a crappy weld that was not ground or even cleaned up, FSB/bayo lug was missing. I walked away when the guy asked how much: the man replied with 850 bucks, but its already sold  I cant remember what else he had there, I was going to ask for a price on something because he didnt have prices on anything.

$850 pricetag is one thing...but SOLD?!? I suspect he was giving you a line...generate interest in outbidding.

That or I'll be starting a career in selling bubba'ed SKS's...marked up "appropriately" of course!

If you don't buy a new car every two years, I would argue that BC and alberta are very close in living costs.abour costs are massive in AB. Annual insurance is cheaper, but annual vehicle registration almost makes up for it. School fees for children were over double when made my move to AB from BC. I was very impressed with paying 2/3 for natural gas until my power bill rang in at $400 for a large family. This would be about $80 in BC. Goods are the same price for the most part. I never paid for water in my life, here it costs me $75/month. The list goes on. BC is more expensive, but AB has a lot of stuff that is crazy expensive too.

You can't compare the Charlottes to the rest of BC. Goods are very expensive there.

He had the "I'm doing you a favour" attitude, I didnt bother wasting my breath in his general direction, just turned and walked away. Poor guy handling the SKS seemed interested at that price. I almost wanted to point out the various dealers selling SKS' @ $200.

:agree: Everything is more expensive on the island. Things are fairly balanced between the 2, living costs are higher in AB but so are wages, especially where the work is.

I wouldn't say it was just on the island. @ the chiliwack gun show some @$$ hat was tring to pawn off his norinco sporter 90's rust bucket SkS for $500 then I seen another guy tring to sell his russian mix match refurb for $450 and are you ready for it...
$600 for an ATI stocked, Marstar SkS rifle the had lots of rounds threw it cause the bolt hand the ring engraved on it from the cassings cycling threw the rifle.
So Happy I wasted my time going there to not buy one damm thing. A well atleast there are some people there that weren't total scamers like that desk that Dlask had set-up. It must have been the busyest booth there besides some guy who came up from the states to sell a boat load of high cap pinned mags.
As one of my friends told me...
Look into what you want first in the forums to see what the good and bad are about the rifle you want to buy. Then check the EE before you go out and buy. That way you know what it is worth if you don't like it and you know what you are getting into before you drop your hard earned money on it.

Well after 10 years of the New Dissaster Party and now 12 years of the Liberal party Taxs on taxs on taxs carbon tax on gas went up 2 cents again today. We are being taxed to the max and their looking for more that's why it's so expensive here. I'm thinking of moving to a third world country where I can still afford to live.

I got my '53 Tula refurb laminate for $225. Oh, and I had them throw in 200 rounds of surplus and one of the rifle shipping/storage crates.

Yup this isn't just limited to BC. Check out the EE. It's amazing what people think their stuff s worth.

I often look for surplus ammo on the EE and it seems that half the people selling their ammo want more than what you'd pay buying it from vendors.

It's funny to see a thread bumped 8 times - and the OP deletes the thread - and quietly starts it up again a week later to hide the 8 bumps. I could go on but I'm hijacking.
