posting this here as it is pertinent, everyone who enjoys using SGGC please take the time to write a letter or two or three, or even to email the pertinent people.

Members of Spruce Grove Gun Club;

The Directors of SGGC are working to find a resolution to the action by the county to limit any part of our range. The media is coming out with material. The Directors have met with the County staff much later than the incident. There are no plans for any follow up meeting. There was no contact by the County on any of the meetings held with the Council.

Councilor Kobasiuk, Councilor for the area has had direct contact with one of the Directors for any information that she would like to have concerning our club and its operations. Phyllis Kobasiuk has asked all her supporters to write the county showing their support for closing the range.

We would like all our members to write the county showing your support for the Gun Club. All members need to do this no matter where you live.

To be effective the letters should:

Identify yourself by name
How many members in your family or group participate shooting sports or the time you spend at the range.
Brief description of the types of activities that you use the range for. Do you travel to be here or to other communities for shooting events? Most of us leave with a full tank of gas. Some of us have RVs that we use to get to and from matches. These all contribute to the revenue in the community.
What negative impact would it have on you if the range could not be used?

Letters are the most meaningful communication but if you have time, feel free to e-mail the Council as well. We would like a copy of your letter so we can judge the actions we will be taking. Here is the contact information for the County and the some Provincial and Federal ministers.

The County has made progress without talking to us. We need to do our work now so everyone knows the importance of the range to the families that use the range. Thanks to everyone that takes up this cause.

All the more important to write those letters now as I believe it's also an election year so councilors are going to want to be seen to be acting and you can be sure if this isn't already an election issue there will be people who will make it one.

It especially important to write if your live in Spruce Grove. The club should really consider reduced membership fees to attract those who live in the County if they haven't done this already. Members who live in the County have the most powerful voice.

The Municipal Gov't Act does allow a Municipality to immediately close down anything unsafe and that is why they are playing the safety card however if the County did try to close with a new bylaw there should be a legal challenge as I 'm sure under the Municipal Gov't Act you can't just write a bylaw making something that was once legal on privately owned land illegal.

This is what I sent. It is not great but I think it expresses my feelings well.

I am writing this letter to express my concern and to have my voice heard on the issue of the Spruce Grove Gun Club. I actively participate in various shooting sports all across the province. As a resident of Spruce Grove since 2005 I enjoy the facilities of the Spruce Grove Gun Club very often. It is an asset to the Community and to the County as well. The Club is run very responsibly with a large focus on safety. In all the time I have spent at the club I have never observed anyone acting in an unsafe manner. This club provides an excellent and wholesome environment for competitors and recreational shooters of all ages. This is a club which supplies safe opportunities for family recreation as well as significant revenue for the community.

I urge you to support the Spruce Grove Gun Club and help them to stay operational and preserve this local resource.

Sincerely,

8am is set up time, we start after all the courses have been set up and the briefing is done, usually 10-11am. Goes till all groups are done and tear down is complete, usually 5-6.
