I have heard that the short mags do not feed well in the kimber 8400 actions. Is this also the case for winchester CF actions. Does winchester use different length actions for the short mags then for standard calibers?

I think it was an issue with some rifles when they first hit the market, but that problem has been corrected for a long time, now. My Montana in 7WSM is one of the first ones produced, and it shoots like a heavy target rifle, and feeds slicker than greased lightning ;)

I had a Kimber montana in a 270wsm that had feeding problems.

I'm thinking you heard some Balderdash.
The 8400's in WSM I've owned/handled fed slicker than snot on a doorknob.

I have a new Winchester Super-Grade .270WSM. Feeds, extracts and ejects flawlessly. The Winchesters in WSM are on a 1/2" shorter action than standard longaction.

I've had three rifles chambered in wsm. The featherweight didn't feed very good at all, the extreme weather was acceptable and the A7 was very good. Single stack is better for the short and fats IMO.

Cheers
