WSM vs RSAUM

I still dont see how it is "good"

there is some developments in the shooting world that interest me little (Super Short mags, for one), but I do not "wish" they would be discontinued by the arms & ammo makers, because *I* do not like them. If they turn someone elses crank, which they do, then that's great. If they get a guy out shooting more often, that is great.

Will the potential demise of the SAUM make WSM sales boost up? Doubtful, as most people out there who buy WSMs dont even know what a SAUM is. The only positive I could see, would be Remington making factory ammo in WSM cartridges...

Expressing an opinion does not make a person look like an idiot. It's a free country pinhead.

How's that?

IMHO the SAUM going out is a good thing. Get over it.

OK...let me dumb this down as far as I can in hopes that you'll answer my goddamn question....

HOW is it a good thing?

6 words, all single sylable.....think you can understand enough to deliver a relatively coherent answer?

idiot(ic).

I think you are off side W/W... I don't read anything in anyones posts here that is taking pleasure in anyone else's misery?
Demonicals post did not strike me as being derogatory, he was simply stating a fact and giving his opinion.
I also think that it is a good thing that Remington is offering the WSM's... does that make me a dumb-ass too.;)

Not at all! I LIKE the WSM's....the more cartridges the better!

Now, if you said "Such and such a caliber is dead, and that's a GOOD thing" (last line, original post)....yeah....you'd be a dumb ass. Only a complete moron would take pleasure (or think it's a "good thing") in a cartridges demise, for it only stands to reason that other gun nutz will be hurt by the decision.

Some people just shouldn't breed.

Wrong Way... TBart... BIGREDD et cetera...

IMHO any serious hunter/shooter ought to reload. If you do then stock up on components.

Hell I just bought an officially obsolete caliber a .300 H&H. Getting brass is a chore, the rest is easy.

If your WSM or SAUM goes the way of the Dodo then I guess you got to rebarrel or rechamber. Rechambering my .458WM to Lott was cheap and interesting.

Later, Jim.

wsm & saum

This post has made quit a few flames, I may start another fire
For some would could care less about these cartridges are not all that good and could care less are FOOLS for me they are these best Cartridge available today they just will out shoot almost anything out there new and old. Just watch the 1000 yard shooters.take a look at this site. www.6mmbr.com look at gun of the week 64 Ric Horst's 7mmwsm. and read this articale and take a look what it did at 1000 yards.
I have shot deer,Moose & bear with 21 different kinds of guns and cartridges
but the gun I got from Hart Barrels last year in 7mmwsm Rem 700 action, 24" 6.7lbs hunting gun, it tacs like no other gun I have ever seen and was easy to get it to shoot. .480 at 200 yards aces at 100 and almost the same at 300 yards if I can do my end. and there is no animal can take a 140gr nosler Partition at 3290 fps in the right place.
Its just sad that Rem didn't offer it in there 700 & Model 7 I guess marketing made them choose the 270wsm & 300wsm the 7mm is just a better choice with bullets available compared to the .270

TBart I was checking out Remington products; rifles and ammo.

FYI Remington is still chambering some rifles in the SAUMs and some in the WSMs. They seem to have RUMs in all their various M700's.

As well they are producing ammo for the WSM in some of their product lines and still some SAUMs in some of their lines.

As far as the rifles that P&D has in stock that I commented on, I didn't remember them having any new Rems in the SAUMs but several in WSM.
Hell! After Rick Jamison wins his law suit against Winchester the RSAUM may well end up being the winner! ;) LoL (Ruger for example is NOT currently chambering any more rifle for the WSM until the legal action is completed.)
From what I understand, Jamison and WInchester came to an out of court settlement of some sort.. There are a few threads on shortmags.org on the topic, but I haven't looked at them recently.

Jamison is threatening to sue other Manufacturers who don't pay him his pound of flesh... 3%... for the use of the WSM configuration.
Remington is big enough to tell him to pound salt...

Don't jump to conclusions too quickly. With Winchester going under in the US, and the discontinuation of the model 70, I think the WSM market is going to take a hit.

im not concerned about wsm going under with winchester .
as (olin)
is the manufacture of winchester ammo and federal is now making wsm too
federal actually makes more wsm cartridges then winchester now

it wouldnt surprise me in the least to see some other company pic up the winchester name it also wouldn't surprise me to find out that winchester is liquifieing there assets to lower there stocks in a attemp to gain more investors

I am not sure that investors are the problem. As Winchester is owned by FN, (who also owns Browning), the company is very large. The only Winchesters to be discontinued are the Ameican made ones, not the Japanese models. It is rumoured that union problems may have been a factor, and also perhaps the lawsuit which was settled with a prominent gun writer over who designed the WSM line of cartridges.
Either way, with the stop of production of probably the most popular rifle with WSM chamberings, the future growth in popularity will likely be hundered.

I will take the old school .338 Winchester magnum and not have to worry about the caliber being phased out or having enough gun in the bush.:) The demise of any cartridge is bad and makes for less of a choice for all.:( I have had a couple of the WSM's and I prefer the .338 mag over them all but I would not rejoice to see the WSM line die out either.

My .02...

It was pretty clear from the beginning that either the WSM's or the SAUM's were going to win out over the other & one was going to be relegated to the 'obsolete' category. Ironically, it looks like the WSM's got the nod, although ballistically I think the SAUM's had a bit of an edge.

That all said, I'd still like to get myself a rifle chambered in 7mm WSM to play with. Not that I think it will give me anything I can't do the same or better with a standard ctg. I just want one to play with...

Jamison is the scum of the Earth as far as I'm concerned.
Never did care much for him and his writings, as I never figured he had anything concrete to say that hadn't been said 20 years before.
I think much less of him now, for the same reason, the 6.5/248 Winchester, for one, a short wildcat with the rim turned down and made rimmless.
That was around for a lot longer that he has been......
