Well fellas, we saw this comming and I picked up brass down south on sale for my 243 WSSM but only one bag:eek::runaway: It's off to Shooterschoice next week for another 4 or 5 bags to stock up while still easily available. I guess we'll see greater sale prices on the remaining WSSM rifles in '08 to liquidate stale inventory. Sure glad I got mine while I did...fits nicely between the 220 Swift and the soon to arrive 257 Roy. The 243 WSSM seemed to be the strongest of the three for Winchester / Browning...but not strong enough!:rolleyes:
 
Now that's not going to happen to the WSM! And no reason to get rid of a rifle just because new ones aren't chambered in that cartridge anymore. Just stock up on brass and reload and enjoy the bastard. I plan on keeping mine and shooting the hell out of it then rebarrel it and shoot some more! One of my most accurate rifles ...hands down!
 
I got it from a very reliable source (Browning rep) that they are not discontinuing the WSSM's but are waiting to launch the X-Bolts in those calibers.

Whether it's true or not, I have no idea....
 
I wouldn't worry about brass availability, though. It's easy enough to make , if it comes down to it. Besides, no one's chambered the 284, 25-20, 218, 348, etc for ages, and you can still get new brass.

And I feel that the WSSM makes for a better wildcat than production cartridge anyway. It's too different for most shooters to accept, and thereby survive in the marketplace.
 
I don't think that Browning rifles not being chambered in WSSM calibers necessarily is "writing on the wall". After all FNH owns Browning and Winchester, so the choice is that of the Belgians. And if it were to be so, I wouldn't loose any sleep over it. I shoot a .270WSM and I don't think it's headed for instinction.
 
I'd be suprised if they didnt show up in 2009 in the Xbolt, which Im sure by then will be offered in even more variety
