Before spending a ton of cash elsewhere you should ask the guys in your reinacting regiment.

I do F&I war period and we buy all our cartridges and whatnot directly from who ever is acting as quartermaster.

Its usually a far easier way to go!


I myself would be interested in doing some civil war period stuff..

Are you guys based or sponsored by one of the local military barracks??

I would definately be interested in checking out your regiment, and hey maybe you would like to do some French and indian war period stuff!!

It could be a trade sponsor me to check out your regiment and Ill return the favor!!

It's been a while since I've looked for them in Ontario. Wait till you get to an event in the States and then visit sutler row - that's where the best deals on caps are. A sleeve of 1000 will set you up for a while. The RWS/Dynamit Nobel caps are good, but the Navy Arms ones look exactly like original issue military caps.
 
Top Hat Musket Caps For Civil War Events

When you purchase Top Hat musket caps go with RWS or Navy Arms type. I have been around some guys that used CCI caps and they have more pieces (8) that break off and cut the guy next to the shooter. I have a collection of musket caps the old Remington caps have smaller wings compared to RWS. The oldest caps I have are Eley in the original containers.
If you go to gun shows you may find caps and black powder. If there are any black powder clubs in your area contact them and ask if they have any musket caps. Also if you are close to the US border or if your CW friends are going to the US get them to drop into a gun shop and pick up Top Hat RWS caps for you. I am in NB and belong to the 20th Maine Co I when we go to an event in the US we get supplies picked up by our sister comapny B out of Fort Knox in Bucksport Maine and resupply our group. Or if we are going to Gettysburg Penselvania, we drop into Kittery Trading post in the Portsmouth area. They have had some great deals on caps something like $5.00 for 200 RWS caps. The big events have Suttlers that supply caps sometimes higher than some places but they have them in large quantities if you order tham in advance from suttlers. Dennis at Fair Oaks is great to deal with, but he seems to be slowly getting out of the Suttler business from the reduced list of items for sale.
