I have followed dis\assembly instructions as per my manual 5 times now and each time the result is the same. The bolt will not operate without extreme force. The rails require extensive fiddle####ing to ge them where they need to be. My springs are pretty much ####ed as they just bind up everytime I attempt to cycle it. What am I doing wrong? I am really at the point of just parting this POS out. I have followed instuctionsto the T, it's gotten me nothing but wrecked springs.

Where did you go wrong? You should have gotten a 10/22... 
Just kidding. But if the springs are really stubborn, they may just be stiff and may need high/hyper-velocity ammo to break them in?
Also, not having any 597 experience - yet - I can always recommend a quick pit-stop to the local gunsmith if you are really stuck.

They are a real pain to get back together. I had to buy 2 sets of springs and finally gave up and took it to a gunsmith and he told me not to bother to take it apart again.

Make sure your guide rails are installed properly and that the bolt is resting wtih each rail sitting in properly. I had an issue with a 597 where the bolt gave resistance. Usually you don't force those things. After taking it apart I put it together and the bolt needed to be 'forced back' which I didn't do. Took it apart and the rails weren't aligned with the bolt. It might take a few times, but be careful, don't wreck the gun, even if it's a 597!

B, I have a 597 bull barrel. I realize that it can be tricky to get the springs back on the slide rods, but with some patience it will come to you. I take mine apart a couple of times per season. They are not built as well as a 10/22that's for sure, but they are more accurate. When you sell it, get yourself a Brno and never look back.
I have no problem geting everything together nicely. It's just a ##### to get thereand the springs bind rendering it useless! Youread my mind with Brno, A high(er) end .22 is in my future.
Could you post some pics. I have a 597. It is my first rifle and I find it incredibly simple. I take mine apart and clean it almost every time I shoot. Im not saying you are dumb... but there must be something wrong. Dont scrap the gun. The new gen 597's are great little rifles. but im also just not a fan of the 10/22 (just personal preference). The next time I take mine apart ill try and take some pics of how I get it back together. I am leaving town for about a week so it may be after then but ill maybe try tomorrow.

What I found was if you tighten the Rail retaining screws too tight it will bind up when cycling...so i just tighten them until the screws are just below the surface of the reciever and it functions flawlessly...the only problem I have with mine is the Trigger group...the pull is horrible i need a new one
I've done it a few times the 2 recoil springs are the most difficult to reinstall, but it's not THAT dfficult. You can still clean the gun without removing the springs...Unless the gun is really dirty don't bother with it...
Rails only need to be finger tight, anymore than that and the gun can bind and malfunction. The recoil springs can be a bugger but after a few times of popping them out for cleaning it gets a lot easier. After the first few cleaning I found the rifle to be quite easy to take down and put back together again.
I figured it out. Like I said getting it together was no problem at all. Getting it to cycle was. I was spinning the rod to make it easier and that was apparently spinning the spring causing it to bind. It's all good now but it still won't slam itself forward when I cycle. I have a staright pull until I get new springs!
