WTF! Can't get H4895 or Varget locally now either...

Well it seems to me there is much better pricing on projectiles out west vs east. Hmm, let's make a trade!

I have noticed that to a certain extent. Depends on what your shooting though.

I just picked up some Varget today for $29/lb

Picked up 2 lbs the other day.

I don't see the point for these two posts?!

I've bought 10lbs of Varget in singles in the last 6 weeks.
I've turned down over 20 lbs during the same timeframe.
They wanted nearly $35.00/lb for it when I'm used to paying $200/8lbs
I have another 8lb jug on order whenever that comes in.
I have enough till spring 2014.

The best was about 210$/8lbs here, now it's jumped to 260+ IF you can find it. Sad. You don't want to know 1lb jug cost.

Guess that's why I'm buying my stuff out east now. Powder in the high 20's to low 30's, and projectiles the same or less (at least the ones I shoot) compared to the west.

Rub it in why don't ya?

It's not about rubbing it in.
It's about visiting your local suppliers often.
Placing orders at each of them and being prepared to buy the product that you ordered.
I ordered an 8 lb jug from 3 different suppliers.
The first called me and told me he has no clue when an 8lb jug will arrive but he had 12 singles for $31.95.
I bought 4 since I had 2 other jugs on order.
Not 3 days later the second shop also called with the same 12 single bottle offer.
Once again I bought 4 singles leaving 8 behind for others.
The 3rd called and told me he had received 10 singles but they were $33.95 so I bought 2 to support them just the same for his efforts.

I had one other place tell me that they had 20 singles but they were either $34.95 or $35.95
I told them that I had enough to get me through the summer.

At worse I have an 8lb jug of XBR that still hasn't been opened which I paid $209.00 in January.

I'm heading down to Calgary tomorrow. If they still have some 4064 in stock, they won't after I leave. :p

Too bad I didn't catch this earlier. I could have bought it for you. I finished off the last 4lbs of Varget and didn't price match. 40$/lb.. ouch.

Come prepared if you want them to match. Problem is they can say others don't have it in stock...

If there would be people willing to do a varget group buy ivo kingston / trenton fron higginson i would be in

But any powder really...

LOL, you must have bought the 5lbs I didn't have on hold. I picked up the last 5lbs tonight.

I was there around 5 and bought 4lbs. She said it was the last 4 they had. Probably didn't mention the items on hold. Hell, I didn't know a store like that would hold items.

I just went in to see about a few things and to see if they had any Varget left. Ended up paying a rediculous price but bought it anyways. I could probably sell it here if need be. I have 12lbs of other powders coming so I'm good for a year+.

I was tempted to try IMR 4064, but too much testing. I have my Varget load already. Probably end up being my winter load.

Edit: Higgisons, as of a few weeks ago, had no Varget either.

Hoarders!

I will agree with that, but sadly if everybody else is than I have to stock up as well. I have powder and primers, but because projectiles are also hard to come by, I have no freedom to make some rounds and go shoot. At least at the developed loads I have forcing me to develop new ones with new powders and projectiles.

I'm good for powder and primers for a year or so. Now I just need projectiles..

Unfortunately 5lbs doesn't go far if you are shooting large calibers, and when you are feeding a couple of .308 semi's it's like pouring sand out of a boot

I am glad I saw this shortage coming.
OK stocks of all powders I use on a regular basis.
Call me a hoarder if you want...I call it foresight, lol.
Eagleye.

hell I've got lots of primers, no shortage of those but I'm getting low on some of the powders I use, I might run out in the next 6 months if I don't find some IMR 4895 and IMR 4350. I may have to backorder some.

I took care of this 10 yrs ago. Instead of having 7 different powders on my shelf to wring out the maximum performance from my ammo/rifle combination,I decided to find ONE powder that would work reasonably well throughout, be inexpensive enough to buy in bulk without killing me, and be assured of a good supply. I chose Higginson's surplus powder WC785. While all you guys are running around trying to find your perfect powder at $35-$55 a pound, I'm paying $17, buying 21 lb lots and shooting all I want. I have enough powder for more than a year of shooting, believe me.

When you are feeding a semi, does it matter if you spent twice as much on the powder, or that you got twice as much for the same price? And before everyone gets up on their high horse, it is my hunting rifle powder too, as well as my varmint powder. It feeds .223, .243, .30-30, both .308s, all 3 '06s, all 7 Lee Enfields 303Br, my 3 P-14s, my two 91/30s, all 6 SKSs if they need reloads, my 799 (in X39mm), my Yugo M48 8mm. They will ALL hit where I need them to, when I need them to. For me, the perfect powder. And, yes, I do have deep winter rounds as well as hot fall rounds, but I can live with that.
