wtf is wrong with people?

in all honesty i probably would have shot the crazy ones after putting the nice ones in the truck for a trip to the animal shelter

Feral cats can be and are a real problem. They usually die very hard by starvation or freezeing. The damage they do is real. I live in the country as well and have had as many as 30 kittens dropped off in a week.

I was takeing them to the SPCA and was informed that I had a problem and should have my cats neutered and spayed. I only had one spayed Tom that was over 20 years old at the time. They came to my house, at my request, to see what was going on.

Anyway to make a long story short, they told me that they couldn't take all of the kittens and cats that I was bringing in. So the onus was on me to either find homes for them or dispose of them. Not a task I like.

Now, I don't get nearly as many drop offs. I started to report cars that dropped off kittens and a neighbour that ran an indiscriminate cat brothel, both to the police, SPCA and the health inspector.

Most municipalities, cities and rural gov'ts are afraid to issue bylaws that promote the killing of feral cats, in BC the provincial gov't makes it illegal for anyone other than the conservation officer or a gov't appointee to kill them.

I feel sorry for feral cats, but can only help so many. I would rather neuter and spay the uncareing, wimpy and irresponsible owners of those cats that abandon them to the elements. bearhunter

House cats are great pets... but dropping cats off in the wild or anywhere else is criminal. Catch them or kill them it is your responsibility as a hunter/conservationist.

P.S. cats should not be let run outside of your house... period.

Hunh? You talkin about me?
You see the funny thing is if someone hadn't sent me a link I would never have stumbled across this wasteland of a thread, as I skip this forum.
And of course the reason I skip this forum is because it has a few knuckle-dragging types who come into the threads and drag them down to a level where most hunters would be ashamed to be associated with people who endorse the idea of killing anything that offends you, and-or can't think past the ends of thier limited little frontal lobes.
I am pleased to see the rest of the members here can at least put forth the humane concept of talking the cats to the SPCA or Humane Society, rather than spewing balderdash about just blasting them. Mind you, I was once pre-pubescent as well, and thought 'killin stuff just cuz' was a great idea...thankfully that stage never really lasted long, and I had no guns.

Call your local Chinese resturant, maybe they'll take a few. Might even get a few $$ for them.

If you've ever tried to tame a real feral cat (not a house cat thats been dropped off) you'd know they don't make good house cats.

A few years ago on my Dad's property we noticed a decrease in the small bird population (finches, chickadees, and grossbeaks) and noticed every time I went for walk I'd see a cat here and a cat there. I told my Dad, and he said they were feral cats. I tried to catch them but good luck! I finally trapped one in a live trap and planned on keeping it as a pet. My Dad laughed at me and said if I could tame it, I could keep it. After getting the cat out of the trap, it clawed its way over my shoulder, jumped off and ran back into the bush. I thought the old man was gonna have a heart attack as he was laughing so hard.

If I can walk over and pick up one of these cats, it goes to a shelter. However it it won't let me near it, I can usually get close enough to catch it with a cci velocitor!

You are SO going to hell ....(chuckle) anyways, I've had a big black nasty ass cat that used to cut through my yard and #### in my flower beds... I called the city to see if they would allow me to trap it. The nice lady on the line said I would have to get the 'trap inspected and approved' or wait to get on the waiting list for a city supplied trap. I asked about why and she said they didn't want any cruelty to the animal. Understandably I replied, "but I was just gonna drown it in a sack anyways". I thought she was gonna die. Poor old girl, I shouldn't kid around about such things.

I'll agree 100% that dropping of animals is criminals. But to take killing them as my hunting responsibility ??? I don't remember learning that sort of non-sense in my hunter training course, although it's been a while and maybe I need a refresher course. No wait a minute my "Ethics" and I know that to be a dirty word, will not allow me to do so. People who drop off animals should be prosecuted, not the creatures that fall victim to their heartless actions. And please, save me the "have you seen what feral cats will do to ...blablabla". Hey, Merry Christmas by the way.

So do you kill mice that are in your house or do you have some high moral argument that allows you to kill them, but not allow us to at least argue for the removal of pest kittys?
I'm not sure but would love to hear your arguments as to where or how the special classification came in for CATS... is it cuz they have a broadway musical about them or something? (humming along now) They stink, they kill all the birds (and don't even eat them (moral hunters?)), they #### in my yard, etc etc.
HERE US KITTYS:
As soon as a critter, un-belongest in these parts shows up, craps in my yard and kills my songbirds the gloves iz commin offfffff!.

off topic but time for some sunday humor
this reminds me of the opening scene in good will hunting

The bar is dirty, more than a little run down. If there is
ever a cook on duty, he's not here now. As we pan across
several empty tables, we can almost smell the odor of last
nights beer and crushed pretzels on the floor.

CHUCKIE
Oh my God, I got the most ####ed up
thing I been meanin' to tell you.

ALL
Oh Jesus. Here we go.

CHUCKIE
You guys know my cousin Mikey Sullivan?

ALL
Yeah.

CHUCKIE
Well you know how he loves animals
right? Anyway, last week he's drivin'
home...
(laughs)

ALL
What? Come on!

CHUCKIE
(trying not to laugh)
I'm sorry, 'cause you know Mikey, the
####in guy loves animals, and this is
the last person you'd want this to
happen to.

WILL
Chuckie, what the #### happened?

CHUCKIE
Okay. He's driving along and this
####in' cat jumps in front of his car,
and so he hits this cat--

Chuckie is really laughing now.

MORGAN
--That isn't funny--

CHUCKIE
--and he's like "####! Mother####er!"
And he looks in his rearview and
sees this cat-- I'm sorry--

BILLY
####in' Chuckie!

CHUCKIE
So he sees this cat tryin to make it
across the street and it's not lookin'
so good.

WILL
It's walkin' pretty slow at this point.

MORGAN
You guys are ####in' sick.

CHUCKIE
So Mikey's like "####, I gotta put
this thing out of its misery"--So he
gets a hammer--

WILL/MORGAN/BILLY
OH!

CHUCKIE
--out of his tool box, and starts
chasin' the cat and starts whackin' it
with the hammer. You know, tryin' to
put the thing out of its misery.

MORGAN
Jesus.

CHUCKIE
And all the time he's apologizin' to
the cat, goin' "I'm sorry." BANG,
"I'm sorry." BANG!

BILLY
Like it can understand.

CHUCKIE
And this Samoan guy comes runnin'
out of his house and he's like "What
the #### are you doing to my cat?!"
Mikey's like "I'm sorry"--BANG--" I hit
your cat with my truck, and I'm just
trying to put it out of it's misery"--
BANG! And the cat dies. So Mikey's
like "Why don't you come look at the
front of the truck." 'Cause the other
guy's all ####in flipped out about--

WILL
Watching his cat get brained.

Morgan gives Will a look, but Will only smiles.

CHUCKIE
Yeah, so he's like "Check the front of
my truck, I can prove I hit it 'cause
there's probably some blood or
something"--

WILL
--or a tail--

MORGAN
WILL!

CHUCKIE
And so they go around to the front of
his truck...and there's another cat on
the grille.

WILL/MORGAN/BILLY
No! Ugh!

CHUCKIE
Is that unbelievable? He brained an
innocent cat!

BC ministry of environement, lands and Parks funded a desktop review of Feral cat impact literature a few or five years ago. Shocking!

basically the imapct is so signifigant that we don't even recgonize it. Who knows how many raptors/snakes, toads, song birds etc we are suppose to have? Domestic feral cats actually kill way more then they eat. A well fed house kitty that goes out for a couple hours kills the equivelant to what a fend for it self feral cat kills.

That being said I have a couple er so, barn/yard cats and would'nt trade em for all the bio diversity in brazil!

well now that i see that most agree with me ill spill the beans :D

i had my 870 with mod choke and decided to try out some 1 7/8oz loads. lets just say that the first 2 that peaked out didnt suffer. im guessing because their heads were almost gone? then the rest just stayed there and didnt run:confused: so the next 2 definatly didnt suffer at all either. the last one booked it and i rolled it but it got up and took off. could have shot but my dog was right on its ass and i didnt want to risk it.

so i spent about 25 minutes tracking this damn cat (luckily there was a little snow) and spotted it moving slowly about 45-50 yards away. a 2 3/4" challenger slug quickly dispatched it.

before all you green peace whiners start, listen to this....

i love cats as long as they are kept indoors or in your backyard. am i a psycho killer that murders every animal i see? no, but i believe in protecting wildlife from foreign predators such as cats. they would have likely froze or starved to death anyways so i did them, and the local wildlife, a favour.

flame away;)

forgot to add...

forget taking them to the spca because they dont hold them for any longer than 1 or 2 days before putting them down. how do i know this? i use to live trap cats for a few years and my aunt worked for the spca for many many years.

so, my neighbours daughter who works for the mnr, my aunt who worked for the spca, father, friends, and fellow hunters all give the same answer...shoot the damn things!

I shoot any cat that comes on my property with a pellet gun...or let the dog have it's way with them.

I hate cats! Shoot em all! Run them down on the streets with your car...whatever.

Way to go CanadianHunter!
