WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!? New rule change?

Double Tap Sports is right this DQ happened over a month ago at the match at GR&G, not at the ICS classifier match that was just held at Waterford. Yes the DQ will be remembered by the person involved and hopefully be a lesson well learned by him. No RO worth their salt ever wants to hand down a DQ and anytime I have to do it I usually try to speak with the shooter involved about it after they have had a chance to think about what has just happened especially if it is someone new. Believe me I do feel bad about doing it but it has to be done.

oh, that day... was that the level two ? the guy on my squad ? if so, I was down range patchin...when he did that.. i remember a guy got dq'd....

Azone,
I speak only for myself, but can tell you this.
It is a pleasure working with you when you are RO-ing.
IMO you are one of the no-nonsense/ common sense/ IPSC Rule Book - RO, and very dedicated to our sport.

Peter

That may be true Filthy1 but then I would miss out on a road trip with BMW for the 2010 Nats right?
I had a similar call (as a CRO) to the one azone made this summer, there is no other call that can be made especially if you are one of the people down range.

DQ's suck; both the giving and the getting. I think I can say that I've felt just as horrible having to DQ someone as I did when when I earned on for myself...maybe even worse. But in my view, these specific safety procedures are the most important ones in our rule set. It may seem harsh and inflexible to some, but relaxing these standards can lead to someone getting hurt or worse, and I don't think any of us would care to live with that.

I have been DQ twice.
Both time, it was my first year.
First time, Provincials in Barrie, pistol felt of the holster, no question, it was my fault.
Second time, RO told me this: ..." I think you broke 90 and I think your finger was on the trigger when you were changing mag"...
Now, I know what to do, when I hear I think, but then, I turned red and walked away without saying anything.

I was ROing a stage and one of the shooters when he was changing a mag, after he actually has inserted magazine fire pistol. It looked like AD, but, pistol was down range, he actually hit the target. I was puzzled for a moment, score keeper called AD for me, which I hate. I unload the guy, check the target and gave him reshoot.
This bothers me still, when I think about it...

Just curious?...Why would you be DQ'ed if your gun fell out of your holster?

I thought that if that happened it simply required to have a RO retrieve it, clear it and reholster....no???

If it happens after the course of fire has started then it is a DQ per rule 10.5.3 for unsafe gun handling. Otherwise you are correct, it is not a DQ per rule 10.5.14. In either case it is up to the RO to retrieve it, clear it, and place it in the competitor's holster. Retrieving it on your own is also a DQ, regardless of whether it is during a course of fire or not, per rule 10.5.14.

Thanks. :D

I happen to know the incident, it happened at GRGC October match, a competitor took upon himself to place unloaded gun on the table before give the commend, mater of fact there were guys still patching down ranger as he did this, he was "getting ready" for the stage which required one to pick up of the table gun empty and mags on the side...I am guessing he meant to put down the mags, instead he placed the gun down...he was DQ'd and left red faced. thank god the RO for that stage was near by to see it and take immediate action. Good job Ron M.
Holy crap. If I was one of the guys downrange I'd be most unhappy. Glad we have ROs keeping an eye on things.
