WTK: Good price for a 1920 MN

I was poking around today and saw a Mosin Nagant rifle that has caught my eye. It is a 1920 Hex Reciever Russian made rifle (manufacturer is a triangle with an arrow in it) it is all matching except the bolt (bolt is in the white). Bore is dirty but with VERY strong rifling. Bolt is quite smooth for the action and has a great trigger pull. Wood is in pretty good shape, comes with a sling and the metal blueing is about 60%. I have a new Polish M44 and would like a full size rifle to keep it company. Guy wants around 170 for it and I would like to know a fair price to offer. Any help would be much appreciated!
 
There are enough nice mosins floating around out there for under 150 bucks, I'd say that's a fair offer. Less, and you're getting a deal. More, its a buyers market...

There was a bunch of markings under the date, can't really remember what they were though. I might check it out again and make an offer and see what he will take.
 
The sling adds about $15 "value" to the package but also make sure it has a cleaning rod as it adds or subtracts $15 from the deal.

The top wood on an 1891 stops short of the rear sight. On a 1891/30 it goes all the way to the rear sight. (at least in my limited collection)
 
And $150 would be more than fair IMHO if it is import marked and it had both the sling and cleaning rod.

$170 would not be a bad price with NO import markings and sling/cleaning rod.

They are also fun to shoot.
 
No import markings and has the cleaning rod. Next time I talk to him I will pick it up. I was out shooting my M44 carbine today, got a nice kick to it. Looks like I will have to pick up a couple of slip on recoil pads as I think I will get this 1920 mosin. The MN rifles seem to be habit forming...
 
Best way to develop a flinch!
The M-44 is very loud and obnoxious and it belches fire regularly. At night the fireball is blinding.
If you shoot it prone with some Hungarian heavy ball, be prepared for something ...er... manly! :D

Ran 40 rounds of 150 grain soft point factory loads through the M44 yesterday after having put 50 rounds of buck and slug through my single shot shotgun. I was surprised I could hit the target with the M44. Recoil was less when I was standing up and firing versus sitting down. I have a 440 round tin of 174 grain corrosive ball ammo that so far untouched. I think I will save it for the full size rifle as it would be a bit much for the M44 carbine. Truly a wonderful rifle though, smooth bolt and a nice trigger. Those Poles did not screw around when they made it in 1953...
 
Polish Mosins

Polish manufactured Mosins are surely the best machined and finished Mosins.
Their finish rivals some commercial rifles.
If you happen to have one, keep it because they are also good shooters.
