I bought one in 1977 and paid exactly $1177 ... and it is in great condition. Purchased it at Skinners Sporting Goods on King St. in TO. Don't believe it takes 3" shells though ...
Now imagine if I had invested in Microsoft stocks ...

I just sold a very nice one for 1000.00, and I felt that was a very fair deal for the buyer...
1200 at the upper end for mint condition sounds ok
