If the difference is between me having a gun I really like, or putting food on the table and mortgage payments on the house, I know what route is obvious.

Honestly it doesn't have to even be that extreme, sometimes you just want to change assets around, maybe buy a new car or put a new roof on the house, or save money for a wedding, etc. All kinds of things can result in somebody parting with a treasured item.

I'm selling off most of my restricted collection for this purpose.

Wow there nelly. A wedding is not a reason to sell guns. It is a reason to buy. Once married, there are all sorts of reasons why you cant buy your toys. Get your boy toys while you still can.

Agreed, kinda.
Also consider that if she doesn't "let" you buy your toys maybe she's not the right one. My wife doesn't care what I do with my money as long as the bills get paid first and I take her for a nice night out once in a while or we go on a trip occasionally.
Selling off a couple thousand worth of firearms really won't make that much difference in the big picture of wedding costs anyway, you'd be better off to stick your nose in there and pull back on the reigns of her spending a little. My first wedding was a huge waste of money, all that money spent for one day that was so stressful that we didn't really even enjoy it. My second wedding was a budget wedding in Jasper and everyone had a good time. It's about celebrating the day with your family and friends not spending thousands and thousands of dollars trying to impress everyone or having the dream "princess" wedding.

Back on topic, I've used the never thought I'd sell this one a couple times. My thoughts when writing the ad were that I want them to know that I really love that firearm and that it was my baby so it was well taken care of. I wasn't selling it because there was a problem with it but rather the opposite, functioned perfectly but couldn't justify having that much cash tied up in a rifle I only used once or twice a year. My Desert Tech SRS 338L was the most recent example of that, always went boom when it was supposed to, always drew a crowd at the range, everyone loved getting a chance to shoot it a couple times, was insanely accurate but having to drive a couple hours to be able to shoot it more than 200 yards meant it turned into a safe queen.

I should be selling some stuff -- and my wife is constantly 'advising' me to (unsolicited) ...I just don't like the idea of someone else playing with my toys! Maybe I'll be ok when (if) I really grow up and get out of the sandbox.

Tell her to sell her shoes or purses

This, my wife is very understanding of my passion with guns and even shoots with me from time to time but we're a young family, and I'm obsessive lol. She knows that so she tries to be the voice of reason, we're trying to save up for some big purchases so that obviously means the gun budget it smaller right now. Doesnt mean it always will be though :)

If it's a custom the seller is trying to convince you to pay close to his cost for something that is unsaleable once you get it. Or he bought it on credit and is hurting now.
Re newly poor in AB; up until 1 1/2 yr ago I was mocked for working mining production for 2/3 of what "real" crane operators get and running other equipment at the same time. Now I get asked if I can get them on the job. My kids still get dental, mortgage is paid, company pays for my boots, I still can't afford a custom rifle. My truck is still old, no $80K lifted diesel in the yard. I want to be sympathetic, but after years of watching "kids" mock and outspend me, it's a tough sell. I've been out of work before, I plan harder to try and avoid it than some.

I had to part ways with some items recently I really didn't want to sell. But I've been unemployed 5 months now, searching, and losing my mind. People want to know at times why you're selling, and I tell them why and where my responsibilities lie....if things keep going this way soon you'll probably see WTS: Right Kidney
