Hello im looking for some help. Im looking at a ww greener from around 1889-90 in the serial number rage of 37### the one concern I have is the stock has a black cap over the end of the heal? I just would like to know if this is factory for this era. Thanks for any help.

We had a discussion about these old shotguns a couple of weeks ago. In the case of the Greener, make sure it says WW Greener and not W Greener. There were a lot of cheap knockoff guns made in Belgium that closely copied well known gunmaker names. Check on the net for pics or on sites such as guns international, guns america etc. of Greeners and you should maybe be able to see if they have that cap.

Like most English guns of that era there were very few "factory" specs and almost anything is possible. Most likely this was added aftewards but perhaps not. I'd suggest contacting Greener directly and asking.

English guns of the period could have buttplates, heel and toe clips or just checkered wood. If it looks as if it is part of the gun, it is likely original, if it has been added, you should be able to tell.
