Hey all

When my uncle past away he had left my aunt a box full of stuff from WW2 which included mostly letters, metals , WW2 correspondence and other such things. But, the one thing my aunt did not know what to do with was this bayonet like the one in this picture. I assume, and correct me if I am wrong, it comes from a 303 Enfield.

So, can any of you tell me what this thing is worth, what kind of markings I should look for, etc., etc., etc....

Regards
Rrobert

Patt 07 bayonet

nice, fits on the ShtLE / No1 family of enfields

should be around $100, I don't think you'll find one for much less then that

markings should be found on the blade near the handle

Sounds like you have inherited quite a treasure! Letters, medals and a bayonet would make a great framed dislplay in honour of your uncle, and, sentimental value aside, are worth much more as a provenanced group then as individual lots. Cool find, you should post more pics!

Without knowing the markings hard to tell if it is for a No1 MKIII or a P14

Here in the US a dealer has them for $30.00 for the P07 and $50.00 for the P14

I am pretty sure it is for a No1MkIII; IIRC the P14 bayonets had two grooves cut into the wooden handle, while the P07 was clean.

Model 17 bayonets had the grooves,

I'm sure its a Patt07 the P14 bayonets have a larger / longer muzzle ring, as the barrel is further from the lug on a P14 then the No1.

guys, that's not a pic of his actual bayo from the sound of his post - it's just a photo he ripped off the net to say his looks similar ;)

right, but it is exactly the same

That is correct... I will have the actual photo and makings tomorrow.

But the fact is that it is exactly what it looks like, sheath and all.....

Even if it is only 50$ the value is it's connection to your family history that is priceless.

I could not agree with you more.

In fact, last year I made a display box with a few of the items that my uncle had left us. When my mom (who was the youngest of the four children) comes over, she still stands in front of it for what seems to be an eternity and tells stories about when she was a little girl and my uncle came back from the war.

The one in the picture is for a No. 1 Mk III. The value of your's depends on condition.
Don't pay any attention to values on U.S. sites though. U.S. prices have nothing to do with Canadian prices. I've seen mediocre condition examples at gun shows running at $60 and up.
"...tells stories..." Pay close attention to them. Record them if you can. Valuable history. Even if it's just family history.
