WW2 modelling

Some things I know I will never own, like a fully operation Panther tank with the factory ambush scheme it sported while part of Kampfgruppe Pieper in the Ardennes forest during the battle of the bulge in 1944, so instead I like to create these things in model form to the best of my ability!

Panther G, Kampgruppe Pieper, Ardennes 1944, commander: Uscha. Kruger

Panzer II, Luchs, light recce tank with 20mm cannon, Normandy, June 1944, 11th panzer division:

M4A1 Sherman, United States Marine Corps, Cape Gloucester:

The Marines applied the black fields of camo paint while the tanks were still on the ships prior to the invasion using mops and paint supplied by the Navy.

Nice work Steve! The attention to detail is awesome!I used to build 1/35 (mostly german cause their stuff is cooler!) and I for one can appreciate the hours upon hours of work that only another modeler could truly appreciate and understand,especially the figures,trying to make them look lifelike is truly an art you seemed to have mastered!
Anyway my two cents,kudos!

Thanks guys!! I must admit though I do this for work also, I make masters for some resin aftermarket model companies, but these are some of my personal projects, I've been busy working on parts lately. For anyone starting out all it takes is practice, and lots of reference!! -Steve

Hi George, a bit of both really. I work part-time for a company that makes model parts, these models are a mix of pieces from common kits, scratch-built parts that I make, and aftermarket parts, I use pieces that closely match plans and photos, and if they don't, I make the part myself. Modern model kits are slowly getting close to getting at least most of the major details right. I think just about every part on these kits has at minimum been improved in some way.

Here is a model that is mostly scratch-built because nothing is currently available for this vehicle:

Awesome work! I love the BergePanther! I built one in the mid 90s that I think was made by Italeri but it wasn't near as detailed or nice as yours.

My old boss would have popped an aneurysm if he saw the condition of that poor Panther.

When you get her hauled into Base Workshops for repair, you should take some pics of the repair process. I think we would all like to see those.

For the guys looking to get back into it, feel free to drop me a PM. Always willing to help and none of my techniques are secret. For painting I use Humbrol and good quality oil paints and pigments from art stores, no pre-mixed washes and filters and all the other crap that his hit the modelling market lately!
